I think the lack of range, while it could be due to limitations of the singer, lends itself well to the content of the lyrics which is almost akin to a conversation, and some times a plea. The mixing of the vocals hints at that. The vox are prominent in the mix (especially for a genre with loud instrumentation) and even the harmonies are greatly subdued in the earlier parts of the song. I listen to a few live performances of this song and it looks like they struggled with getting it right up until this year with their performances in the US. Despite that I love them live and hope to see them one day.

Some back story. Some little village in Indonesia. These girls heard some rock in school when they were 17ish, (they are early 20s now), and decided they wanted to play. They had old junk broken gear, the bassist learned to slap on an acoustic guitar. Their first debut in school got them in trouble. They tried to forbid them from playing, even their parents tried. they practiced in secret. Once they started rolling for real they were called satanic by hardline fanatics, vandals hit at least one of their parents business. They had rocks thrown at them. One took a rock to the head and it drew blood. They are fine with their religion, just a few hardliners cause issues. They have been invited to Wacken Open Air this year. They are rock stars and well deserving of any accolades they get. Hit up the ones from France, the RATM killing in the name of cover is indeed killer.

The did had challenges in the early days, that's because they are from small village and it's conservative, and some people say what they're doing is against Islam and metal is devil's music, plus they're girls... Once they moved to the capital, Jakarta, for better training, better facilities, they're had easier time to be accepted in the community. Indonesia has a whole doesn't hate music, and there are many women singers with hijab, even bands. But VoB comes from a conservative small village, that's why.. They're also pioneer because of the genre they choose, all- female band (usually metal bands in Indonesia are all male or mixed) and they come from a small village.
