Flamenco Beach, located on the island of Culebra in Puerto Rico, is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. With its crystal-clear waters, white sand, and picturesque views, it's no surprise that it has become a popular tourist destination for people from all over the world. In this article, we'll explore everything you need to know about Flamenco Beach, including its history, location, and what makes it such a unique and special place to visit.
History of Flamenco Beach
Flamenco Beach has a rich history that dates back to World War II when the island of Culebra was used as a military training ground by the US Navy. During this time, Flamenco Beach was used as a place to practice amphibious landings, and remnants of the military occupation can still be seen on the beach today in the form of old tanks and bunkers.
After the Navy left Culebra in the 1970s, the island was turned over to the US Fish and Wildlife Service, which designated it a wildlife refuge. Since then, the island has become a popular destination for tourists who come to enjoy its natural beauty and crystal-clear waters.
Location and Getting There
Flamenco Beach is located on the island of Culebra, which is part of Puerto Rico's archipelago. Culebra is a small island, only 20 square miles in size, located off the eastern coast of Puerto Rico. The island can be reached by ferry from the town of Fajardo on the mainland, which is about an hour and a half drive from San Juan.
Ferries depart several times a day, and the trip takes about an hour. Once you arrive on Culebra, you can take a taxi to Flamenco Beach, which is located on the northwest side of the island. Taxis are readily available and can be found at the ferry terminal.
What Makes Flamenco Beach Unique
There are many things that make Flamenco Beach a unique and special place to visit. First and foremost, its crystal-clear waters and white sand beaches are unparalleled in their beauty. The beach is surrounded by natural vegetation, including palm trees and mangroves, which provide shade and a habitat for a variety of birds and animals.
One of the most unique features of Flamenco Beach is the old tanks and bunkers that were left behind by the US Navy. These rusted relics of the military occupation have become a popular attraction for visitors and provide a unique backdrop for photos.
Flamenco Beach is also home to a number of amenities that make it a convenient destination for tourists. There are several food stands and vendors selling refreshments and souvenirs, as well as bathrooms and changing rooms for visitors. There are also picnic tables and grills available for visitors to use, making it a popular spot for family gatherings and barbecues.

I've been there and it is one of the most beautiful beach I've ever seen. It is very isolated (bring water and food), in a remote part of the island. Quiet, peaceful and the water is powder blue.

You also went there in February so you wont see people since most work and go to school during this time of year aaaaand Feb is usually the coldest month so it might feel like a Cali’s summers. Now in Summer time its a whole other story, that beach gets paaaacked. Culebra is also extremely small, the reason why there aren’t many locals there and people usually take the Ferry from mainland and back the same day you will not find fancy stuff. You will have the local food shops by the beach. If you are looking for something less natural and secluded from civilization, you can go to Viequez; more population (since its a bigger island), fancy hotels and more local shops. And it was also home base for Navy for a long time. I believe the Navy left Culebra before leaving Viequez.
