Richard is kind of a cheap shot, there, though. Before he was in line to inherit England (he had an older brother, Henry the Young King), he was already in line for and effectively was Duke of the Aquitaine in France. He of all English kings (along with William I and Henry II, who were born French, and probably George I) has the most excuse for being un-English.
@beeble2003
@beeble2003 3 жыл бұрын
@@bobbyfeet2240 More to the point, at that time, Aquitaine was English territory. Saying that Richard was in France makes it sound like he wasn't even in the country that he ruled but, actually he was: he was in England, just in a part of England that's now part of France. Anyway, still very funny and very educational.
@CJAlexander
@CJAlexander 3 жыл бұрын
I actually don't think it's a cheap shot, you guys, nor that Aquitaine also being ruled by the Normans - not "the English", crucially - invalidates the point that Richard was a pretty ridiculous "English" king. He notoriously hated spending time in London because of the weather, and in his entire ten-year reign he's estimated to have spent a total of 6 *months* north of the Channel. What he really preferred was going off to play at war in the Holy Land, but that's another topic... 😁
@panchopuskas1
@panchopuskas1 3 жыл бұрын
@@beeble2003 ...Aquitaine was not "English" territory....it belonged to the dynasty founded by Richard's father - Henry II.....these were times when dynasties were more important than nationalities but when we look back we see things through modern eyes.....the 100 years war, for example was not really England v France, but rather Plantagenet v The various French Royal families.....

It’s the first-world problem/fad, Non-issue of the century, and nobody except Hollywood and a very loud minority gives a shite. Eddie has described himself as gender fluid, and although I find him absolutely hilarious and a comedy genius, I really don’t care enough to find out which days of the week he prefers which pronoun. Nobody has the right to to that much of my own time and effort, so I go with the path of least resistence: He/him.

Yeah, around 2000 crimewatch did a program on him for telling the same jokes in different shows. It was a real dick move on their part, and it really knocked his confidence. So much so that he didn't gig for three years. He'd been gigging constantly for years and years up til then. When he came back he was much shakeyier and in shows around then you can see him just not have the confidence in his own jokes. Thankfully, since then he's kept at it and his most recent stuff is fucking excellent.
