Over 10 years ago, Karlee Porter launched her signature style of quilting with her first book - Grafitti Quilting. Machine quilting has never looked so gorgeous! Basically, it's a mashup of all kinds of unexpected designs in the same quilted area. It also involves breaking lots of “quilting rules'' to achieve a very unique and extremely personalised look. So grab your sewing and a cup of tea, and enjoy. Followers can get $25 off their tuition for her online class with this code: JGID25

An AA degree isn't "just an associates" it IS an advanced degree. Be proud of that accomplishment. And! It was what you needed to get a really cool job that put you on the path to be able to do really amazing and unique quilting. I love her attitude!

AA degrees are much more focused on the information you want to learn! Bachelors make you take all this other stuff that is irrelevant, ie a science major shouldn’t have to take English literature.

Wow! Her work is so beautiful! I can really appreciate what she has done. Sounds like she had someone lookking out after her to fall into the right job, the right work ethic, and the right connections at the right time. And yes, I want her energy. Thanks Karen, for this wonderful interview and opening up a whole new world of fiber arts. Brought a smile on my face today!

Wow! That fabulous quilt design with the Treble Clef on the left and the music on the right . . . I hung a coloured picture of that on the wall of my office, but I never knew who had created that piece of work. Now I have learnt who the creator is and "met" her through this great video. Thank you Karen, for posting the interview.

The best graduate art programs teach you to find a point of view and defend it. Karlee does that in spades. I love to see a "radical" approach from a citizen of conservative Utah. Her personal, unique quilting opened up opportunities for her that are expanding her world. Wonderful stuff. Thank you, Karen, for sharing.

This was a spectacular interview. I had never heard of Karlee Porter or what graffiti quilting was but I certainly learned so much. Karlee's quilts are a real work of art, but more so, what she has accomplished in such a short amount of time is unbelievable. I admire her for staying focused on her passion and looking out for herself and others along the way. Her confidence is admirable. Karen and Karlee, what an AWESOME video!!! 🤩💯😍🎶 🙏🏻Thank you so very much!🙏🏻 Now in my 70’s, I have so much left that I want to do - - especially quilting! I can design and piece just about anything I want, but I’m still stuck at Basic Level 1 in my quilting dream (straight stitching and echo-ing). Karlee, I have admired and L❤️VED your musical quilt since I first saw it (2012 or soon thereafter). Maybe it’s not too late for me to learn from your books!! 😊 And as you say, Karen, “Just Get It Done!”😅 🙏🏻God bless you both! 🙏🏻

OMGGGGGGG!! I discovered Karlee 10 years ago in 2014 when she only had 2 videos on KZfaq! I was DYING for more content and have followed her journey since. She's one of my favourite sewlebrities! I've watched every interview she's done and this was by far my favourite. So in depth, detailed and even educational. I've wanted her books since they came out, wanted to sign up for courses since they started, and wanted to start designing full cloth graphics since before Honest Fabrics was born, but life challenges & obstacles kept getting in my way. I love her attitude, intelligence, ethics, energy and positivity. She's just absolutely a gorgeous human inside, outside and skill wise in the art she creates. I'm trying to get back into quilting after a 5 year stint of not touching any of my machines, and I NEED this book! I think that must be a sign. Might as well sign up for the course this fall! ❤😂🥰 Thank you so much for doing this interview Karen! You're also one of my favourite sewlebritites for many of the same reasons, and I regularly suggest your KZfaq channel to new quilters on Reddit 🥰

You did it again -- knocked it out of the park with this guest! I've seen her classes advertised and thought "just another FMQ class" ... I was wrong! So glad to hear this interview and so very proud of her success in pursuing her passion (and I don't even know her)! I was perusing the Honest Fabric sight while watching this video; just seeing the fabric already gives me the peace of mind to quilt with freedom and experimentation without worrying about messing up a quilt I have spent hours piecing. Whole cloth quilting is intimidating; it's like sitting down to write a novel and staring at that first sheet of blank paper, but love the options on the Honest Fabric site! Thanks again, Karen, and congrats on 402K! Heading back to Karly's site to purchase her new book!

Such a cool way to end up in the quilting industry and an awesome way to express a person's artistic abilities. The stars aligned several times in her journey. I think of zentangles when I see the graffiti quilting. Love the owl and music themed ones. I would love to see a side by side of a collage quilt against the same in graffiti. How cool would that be?...like a duel lol.

I can't wait for this 3rd edition to come out. I love quilting books and I love this technique. Also about Honest Fabric panels--I took a class a few years ago from a famous quilter and we used an Honest Fabric panel for the lessons. It was beautiful and so easy to just concentrate on the quilting lesson and not worrying about having to piece an expensive quilt top.

Karen, what an amazing interview! In the wee hours when I can't sleep, I do listen to your videos, not to put me to sleep but to help quiet the noise in my head. Always interesting topics and wonderful questions you ask. Karlee has my creative juices flowing. With this interview, I could not put my tablet down, I was riveted. Thank you so much for sharing such inspiration with us. Take care. Deena Moody
