My advice for anyone trying these cheats: Make sure you have a good controller where ALL the buttons are functional. I tried with a faulty controller, and no matter how hard I held down the L1, L2, R1, and R2 buttons whilst inserting the code input, I couldn't hear the sound and the cheat didn't work. However, I tried again with another controller where the L1, L2, R1 and R2 buttons worked and the cheats worked this time. So yeah, I can confirm that these codes do in fact work... just make sure all your controller's buttons work.
