@@ianpicking9481 A safe assumption is still an assumption. It just shows that the question is poorly written. You have 4 options so you “guess” the most probable answer. But geometry is not supposed to be a guessing game.

not an assumption, the radius refers to length from the center to an edge, meaning the radius that was given confirms that the triangle's left edge was in the middle

The fact that the dotted line isn't just showing you the height of the triangle but it's also laying over the circle to indicate the exact diameter of the circle, means there's no assuming to this. But I get what you were trying to say, I just think you didn't realize that, no matter what, that dotted line and it's measurement could be indicating the circle's diameter or, the triangles height and you wouldn't know but because they're over lapped, you know it's indicating both the diameter of the circle and the height of the triangle.

@@nefth1363 Nowhere in the question does it indicate that is the radius of the circle ... you’re just assuming it is! HE says it is the radius ... but that is an assumption. Nowhere in the question is it stated that the radius is 4. The question is poorly written.

I would’ve done 4*4 and still get the same answer. But that’s just my way of guessing through the problem because SAT. I love how you did it so I know for sure this formula will work on many similar problems thank you.

You’d have to assume that the 4 represents both the height of the triangle and the radius of the circle. There’s nothing about the picture itself which tells you that the line goes precisely to the center point of the circle.

Bro even without assuming you can get diameter like radius is given to us and regarding the base if its a diameter or not it doesn't matter because it's not specified in question for us to find it. We been asked to find area and we found it

@@shravanvyapari490 if the base of the triangle doesn't intersect with the center point if the circle then you neither have the radius nor the diameter of the circle. It's only if you assume the triangle intersects with the center point of the circle that you can say the radius is 4.

Well you could do this easier. A circle is 360 degrees and a triangle is 180 degrees so if you times the triangle by 2 then it’s 360 and the 4 is an 8. Then because there is the bottom half you add another 8

45 degrees ... since we are in the sky and we are measuring distance with flight, area would be a longitude of a geographic distance accordingly to weighted meter.

Me thirty here i still can't follow. since what gave you the right to say that 4 is a radius? It did not specify anything? Btw i know that he did a right calculation provided that 4 is also a radius. But the problem did not in anyway that the base of the triangle is equal to the diameter of the circle. That problem is unsolvable i think.... or i think to much for a 7th grader question?

Remember 1/2bh is applicable only for right angled triangles... In this case angle in semicircle is 90 so it's a right angled triangle

Just put the two triangles together and you get a square with a length of 4 and therefore A = 4^2 = 16

The center is not a given , therefor the radius is not a given and the right angle is not a given. These need to be stated in the question

Actually, the center of the triangle’s base can NOT be assumed to be the center of the triangle, unless it is a given. Please be more careful when you write these questions. The SAT will definitely fault you for that one.

don't assume the picture is correct. we don't know if the dotted line is the radius and therefore don't know if the unmarked triangle sides are congruent. there's not enough information to accurately solve.

Well now that i am an adult.... i can presumably say that you are only right IF only if 4 is the radius. Since there no additional other clues aside that there is a triangle inside a circle thats it and a number 4 which is only the height of the triangle nothing else. You assumed that the height is also tge radius.

You are assuming that 4 is a radius of the circle. You don't know that the left point of that line is the center of the circle

Does a question like this not have to specify that the triangles are right triangles? If you don’t assume that the the side labeled 4 is perpendicular, the triangle cannot be solved. I hate it when questions don’t tell me what I’m allowed to assume😅
