To answer you question on why Kurt got released in 2006: He had requested time off to heal because he was wrestling nonstop while on the pain pills and it wasn't given to him, so he ended up being released. He eventually went to TNA because of the lighter schedule

Or he refused to go to rehab so WWE fired him, and TNA had virtually zero drug policy, you choose.

He literally was in tears with Vince. He was so doped up and dealing with pain he told Vince if he didn't get time off, it was going to kill him. Vince let him take the time he needed to recoup and heal. Dude was wrestling nonstop with body damage that would cripple the average person. Kurt talks about it in an interview that the drugs were taking a huge toll on him and was mentally breaking down as well as the physical damage. He was a huge impact on the WWE roster and a large face of it too. Vince respected him enough to let him go to heal.

@@JustinDorseyTV here's what happens On the April 15, 2004 episode of SmackDown!, Big Show promised to quit if he failed to defeat Eddie Guerrero that night. He lost to Guerrero after Guerrero performed a Frog Splash, and, believing that Torrie Wilson had laughed at him for losing, upended her car and threatened to throw her off a ledge. Then General Manager of SmackDown! Kurt Angle ascended the ledge to try to talk some reason into Big Show, but he chokeslammed Angle off the ledge, kayfabe concussing him and breaking his leg, as well as causing the back of Angle's head to bleed. After the show, Big Show was neither seen nor heard from on WWE television for months as he had knee surgery on April 24.

Kurt's story is a very sad one over all. The worst thing is he entered pro-wrestling with his neck already really messed up. Maybe if he'd retired after WWE released him, he'd be able to rotate his neck today. I'm happy he's done in the ring and doing podcasts now.

Same could be said for Chris Benoit though his extensive head trauma and steroid use led to his actions, and few ever talk about the man he used to be. Imagine if he didn't do what he did and got help for his brain injuries though I don't think he could ever have recovered as they were quite extensive.

Some of the crazy drug stories that some wrestlers tell are beyond almost anything I've ever heard of. Sadly, we have lost so many legends because of that, but thankfully it seems like we've moved past that era now.

Great reaction! Love your stuff. Yeaaah, rough time for Kurt. And sadly he wasn't the only one going through this, it was a very common thing. Especially during the 80s, when your livelihood depended on you being able to wrestle, so if you were injured and couldnt make it. You could be let go, so alot of self medication, which then had to be balanced out with other stuff to wake you up before a match combined with drinking after it all etc etc. Vicious cycle. Jake the Snake Roberts is a prime example of a man who has done practically EVERYTHING in liquid, pill and powder form and STILL lives today at age 67(finally clean). The Keith Richards or Ozzy Osbourne of wrestling, if you will.

This video just talks about Angle’s TNA run but his prime is definitely considered his WWE work from when he debuted in 1999 and left in 2006. He returned after going into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017 and had a few matches but not at a high level before retiring fully in 2019.
