Fun fact about the Challenger Theatre Entry Standard (TES); did you know that this is one of arguably the most unrealistic and broken models in top tier? the side armor is fairly infamous for how inaccurately programmed it is, the side armor of the TES in this game is unnamed "ERA", which is actually just unnamed ROMOR ERA from the 1980s, which is utter obsolete garbage. the ERA it has in real life is actually Rafael Shield R, which was developed FOR THIS TANK, and is capable of stopping up to 30mm APFSDS rounds! (you're looking at 130-160mm of kinetic protection) (also Shield R is a hybrid of ERA and NERA, it has an ERA block attached to a NERA screen, which is why the TES' ERA is model is over 60% thicker than the Challenger 2 (F2)'s modeled armor kit, it's also why the tank weighs 75 tonnes as the armor kit was "protection matters above ALL ELSE" and added ten tonnes or so to the tank's weight) Aaand Gaijin knows this, and outright bans any discussing it on the forums LOL, their justification is that the Rafael company's website+all the protection standards Shield R has qualification for aren't good enough sources to justify buffing it/want *more* documents to prove the true protective capabilities of it... all of this was known BEFORE THE TES ever entered the game in the dev server, the ROMOR ERA was called out/they were told what the ERA should be, and the solution was to lock the thread and just remove the name "ROMOR" from the xray while keeping all the stats)

well, it gets nerfed next update, the side armor at one point was able to withstand the BMP 2 APFSDS, next update it will not anymore. Even though the ERA alone is rated for Dardo 30mm APFSDS but Gajin pulled the "public information is not enough to prove" card while russian ERAs get modelled after the claims their manufactures make

For some reason I really like the TES, even if it is the complete opposite of my other favorite MBT (Type 10). Maybe because the side armor kinda works sometimes. Nothing I would rely on but a nice surprise every now and then. Together with the 5 sec reload it is just perfect for those engagements with multiple enemies. At least thats my experience.

Honestly so stoked for the chally 3 as a Brit but I do wish the chally 2 armour is a bit more accurate as it’s very lacking at times.

Gaijin should add the camo blanket that cover the ERA armor.

8:15 - This seems to be an issue with the entire Sun City map, I've gotten killed throughout several great flanks just because the garden steps between B and C cause your gun to shake uncontrollably. Hope gaijin looks into that

God, there are so many things Gaijin could do to make then Challenger series more realistic and more competitive. In real life she stands beside her peers, in-game she stands below them. As she is now, her gun is poor - her mobility is poor - and her protection is poor. She has a far inferior gun to the Abrams or Leopard, she is notably much less manoeuvrable as an Abrams or Leopard, and her protection is too flawed or is paired with a trade-off in mobility, to make it better than the Abrams or Leopard. Small changes to make her more realistic and to fix her in-game deficiencies would make her more competitive and enjoyable. Small changes. For realisms sake, its mobility really shouldn't be much worse than an Abrams or Leopard. Though powered only by a 1200hp engine, they travel on second generation horstmann hydrogas suspension. A similar suspension system permits the Type 10 (powered by a 1200hp engine) to absolutely smoke - and I mean smoke - the Type 90 (powered by a 1500hp engine) despite it having a lower power/weight ratio. Paired with regenerative steering which is not but should be added in-game, the Challengers should be nigh as manoeuvrable as an Abrams or Leopard 90% of the time bar when hoofing it, especially when off-road. Note that the Challenger can exceed 60kmh but is limited not to for maintenance sake and so as to not throw or damage the tracks, brakes, or transmission. One can imply that, as she retains the same top speed with 15 tonnes of additional armour. The Challenger was made no cheaper than its contemporaries, it's even quite a bit newer - only entering operational service in 1998. Her systems nonetheless have gotten a number of upgrades as well. Commanders have been given pseudo-thermal sights via installation of CROWS systems, and her gunner has received the third generation Catherine MP thermal imaging sights. Alongside improvements to her transmission, her engine has also seen a number of upgrades. Her new engine designated the CV12-8A and CV12-9A are improved over the original CV12-6A that we have in-game. Applique armour as seen on the TES and 2F in-game should famously be rated to stop 30mm kinetic munitions, not 30mm of kinetic penetration as they do in-game. Her Barracuda thermal camouflage as seen equipped by the TES in-game should help reduce her thermal signature compared to contemporary MBTs, in-game it does not. Paired with the Challenger 2s design which was made to reduce her radar signature and engine signature, the Challenger 2 should be harder to detect than it is currently. The Challenger 2 TES is also equipped with a full-spectrum soft-kill frequency jammer which does not work in-game... Another deficiency of the Challenger in-game is her slow first-stage ammunition replenishment, which is unrealistically slow, it should be halved. The only thing needed by the loader to replenish the first stage ammunition is for him to move light propellant, that's one of the numbered benefits of having two-piece munitions. For balancing sake, I'd also just love it if the Challengers UFP were rated to stop the best rounds in the game - not unlike the T80BVM and future T90M. The lower front plate is a glaring weakness, capable of being penetrated by the weakest guns in the game and easily by autocannons. Paired with her driver port and mantlet weaknesses, its safe to say that in-game she is even less protected than many Russian tanks - which just is not realistic for a tank 20 tonnes heavier that should be able to stop said penetrations in real life. Though applique armour of the TES and 2F added to the LFP should help protect her against low-power rounds and autocannon fire, her lower front plate would remain a glaring weakness to all but the weakest APFSDS rounds and of course, the additional armour would slow down the tanks mobility.

I recently watched your first TES video, I remember when it had like 5 thousand milometers of protection against chemical projectiles or something which was completely comical.

Personally i use the "default short sight" when playing, its in base game and no custom sight quite does it for me but i also dont need range lines up to 6000m so the short range sight is a nice inbetween stopping the lines at 2800m i think, try using it if you dont want the clutter

My issue with challengers in war thunder having seen them IRL is not the fact the top speed is low, it's the fact in-game their acceleration is completely butchered. They're pretty damn fast from a standstill getitng up to speed.

11:24, the bane of nearly every Soviet, Russian, and British tanks. Though French tanks do suffer to bad gun depression, they have the mobility to go in and reverse out. The 6km/hr and 4km/hr are so unfrench like from the Somua SM, Surbaisse, and AMX-13 though.

I think I prefer copy/paste premiums to locking interesting and unique things behind a paywall, but at the same time I'm not the biggest fan of being able to buy a top tier vehicle on day 1. Also I think the suspension doesn't know how to interact with the kerb, which is why the tank ends up bouncing around

Does anyone have a sound bug at the moment in war thunder? Very often jet sounds are way to late or not in the right direction from where the jet is coming from. Sometimes i cant even hear some tanks. I uninstalled all mods and reinstalled the game but now its bugged again

I was UK main, grind to top tier was PAIN, it made the grind for other nations so much more fun by comparison. Now when i play top tier, I avoid UK because everything is so slow. To play the chally, you basically need an enemy to present to you and if you dont kill them first shot, you are D U N done. They look like they have good armor but it feels like paper against everything else when playing. I rely on mobility so I never play UK anymore, its a shame really

The chally 3 TD is just a better versions/combination of a german 120mm L/55 gun and all the great things from the previous tank, anyway, the TES is not that great, it is similar to the OES, and I don't see that much differences between them. Me personally loves british ground tech, because you got a 40mm gun in the first tier.

i like absolute top tier uptiers (12.0, 12.3) the best because you generally don't have people who haven't at least grinded 1 high tier tank, as well as the prem they have. Yeah there's the occassional TURMS only with a Mig 29 but it's way less common than the 10.0 black hole. Those games are the absolute worst, worst teams, worst players, most chaos. The new prems are going to make absolute top tier the same shit and that sucks. It's unfortunate they feel the need to sell those vehicles. The gameplay takes a huge hit. You might think "more noobs to feed on a top tier" but really it's just "more teammates that are going to leave after one death and no kills".

I think the armor on the challenger 2 isnt as bad as people, I find its hull armor is more trolly and inconsistent compared to say the Leopard 2s, M1s and other NATO tanks (other than sweds)
