Just a cooking tip from an elderly boy scout: If you're cooking on an open flame the pot/pan bottom gets sooty and hard to clean. Solution: Soap it up well with a wet bar of soap. Let the soap layer get sooty; it washes off easily.

Justin, thank you for sharing this build. You've made it a very sweet design and a great build! I know I'll be making one like yours for my own use. I'm wondering about making a grate from small diameter steel rod, with the pieces laid criss-cross and welded where they cross. Have to look at that - I've got a pile of bar stock (3/16 in. & a bit of 1/4 in. round) in my offcuts. Something I saw in 2015-16, on a larger, clunky rocket stove cobbled up from plate sections (uggh!) was having a small (1 to 1-1/2 quart?) water-heating tank on the side opposite to the wood feeder. Square tubing would make it simple. Arrange the filler to one side at the top, & hot water drawn off a few inches above the overall bottom plate - high enough to get a cup or small pan/pot underneath. It wouldn't have a filler that sealed tight, so it couldn't become a "boiler bomb." For a drain, ideally it wouldn't stick out, to avoid snagging something and tipping the stove, or just being snapped off by accident. It would hold enough hot water to make 2-3 cups of coffee, or to mix up another part of a meal in a small pot while a pan was cooking on top. Must give that some more thought. Anyhow, you've made this a work of art as well as a great rocket stove. Thanks!

Great skills and good design about increasing the space for more wood to burn, my little suggestion for review is if on the air inlet you add a rectangular drawer to extract the ashes away from the combustion chamber.
@offroadoverlords
@offroadoverlords Жыл бұрын
Yeah, as is, you have a very limited burn time before you gotta turn this thing back on it's rear side to empty it. Honestly, if the bottom had a diamond grate hole, you could just dig a little 4x4x12" hole and set the stove over it and let the ashes fall into the pit. Easy to extinguish with a bottle of water and plop the original sod back on after.

That's a beauty! I like the rear air intake, and the trivet to hold the pan is very nice. You should build a "chimney oven" for it. It would be very cool to do some outdoor baking with that thing. I saw one a while back, it was like a 14x14" box inside of an old gas cylinder. The escaping smoke goes around the inner box (that your food goes into), before exiting. These rocket stoves are amazingly efficient. Once it's running hot, almost zero smoke. Very cool project!

I would consider a choke for the air inlet that you can open/close.
@robertdieder4178
@robertdieder4178 4 жыл бұрын
it wouldn't require much additional work. Just a cut above the air inlet to fit a plate that can push/pull and drill the sides for bolts that the choke plate can rest its weight on.

I stacked a bunch of bricks I collected and made one just by stacking, and will use it if (when) the power goes out. I was surp.rised at home efficient and hot it got! Now, it has to be babysat for feeding in fuel, but yours is the real deal, self feeding. Now I'm thinking, what about a brick tower and base, but make a slanted steel chute...? Hmmm. 😏

Nice job, earned a sub. Recommendation from a professional KZfaq Video consumer? Not a fan of the music, but if you're attached to it, turn the volume down on it a bit. It can be VERY overpowering.

I think two holes, either on opposing sides or opposing corners, would be useful. You could then use tent pegs to hold it in place, so it's harder to accidentally knock over
