And for some reason Hwasa receives a lot of hate for not meeting Korean beauty standards. But instead of letting that affect her, she has this kickass "screw you" attitude. And does her thing. Welcome to one of the deepest rabbit holes in kpop. For me Mamamoo was my first kpop love affair and BTS came later but it's totally appropriate to mention them in the same breath. MMM was the first group to debut under a tiny startup label called RBW (Rainbowbridge World) and, like BTS, defied the odds to carve out their own unique musical niche and become one of the top groups in kpop via their immense talent, hard work and creative involvement with all aspects of their career from songwriting and choreo to styling and MV concepts. BTS and MMM are friends, esp rapper Moonbyul & Jin, who are in a '92 liner club with some other idols, though V is the biggest MMM fanboy in BTS. MMM has been around since 2014 and have dozens of MVs. They're best when they're live and there are 100's of hours of live MMM videos available so you've got a lot of great music to look forward to and since you love positivity in music you've found the right group. Yes I Am is MMM's grrl power anthem of self-love and there are many others that carry empowering messages. If you want a song about cutting someone out of your life who's cutting you down then check out Egotistic. Though MMM is a 4X4 team of best friends each member has a successful solo career as well, as evidenced by MMM being the first group to have all members chart on Billboard as solo artists while the group is still active as a unit. Since you like Hwasa you're going to want to check out her albums Maria and Guilty Pleasure. Maria has two MVs, for the hit title track Maria and for b-side LMM (Lost My Mind), which are bookend songs about how she deals with all the hate she receives just for being herself and doing her own thing. Fwiw, Maria was my pick for 2020 album of the year and LMM was my song of the year. Guilty Pleasure is her recent 3 song "single album" featuring the addictive track I'm a B(itch). Next week Moonbyul & Wheein (the environmental protester) will release new albums, Wheein on the 16th and Moonbyul on the 19th. Moonbyul has dropped two pre-release singles called G999 and Shutdown in case you want to listen to them before the album and title track come out. These girls are some of the busiest, hardest working people in Korean music but they make it look easy by being fun, funny, cheerful and relatable goofballs. Good morning! TO SAY Mamamoo is my favorite gg in the entire world would be an understatement! They are just so talented both as a group and individually. Welcome to the world of Mamamoo. Some 9f the best vocals in kpop. This group worked hard , looked down upon by many but they just used it to push them more. They have a lot of positive songs and they never forget the fans that supported them. Amazing group . To get a good sampling of their music , I would suggest Mamamoo killing voice. i had to chuckle when you said 'trust and believe' since that's basically one of the catchphrases south korea uses to describe this group... 'belismamoo', short for 'believe and listen to mamamoo because their music never disappoints' they've got a huge and varied discography, more than 350 songs total, including group work, solo work, osts, cfs (commercial films), collabs/features and such, so there's a *lot* of material. and they're known for not sticking with any one musical style.... you'll get smooth jazz, bossa nova tracks, hiphop diss tracks (about each others heights, no less!) and so much more from them and much of their music, especially the title tracks, is about self-empowerment, female empowerment or both. they're at the forefront of south korea's still-burgeoning feminist movement (which gets them both a lot of love and a lot of hate). none of the girls actually fits the ultra-narrow kpop ideal of korean beauty standards and the group as a whole has gotten a lot of crap about that over the years (including being described as 'that ugly group' when they first debuted), especially hwasa (the one you kept getting drawn to). they didn't let this bother them and kept just releasing amazing music with uplifting lyrics and are now one of the top groups out there, though they still get a lot of unwarranted hate (...again, especially hwasa) "hip" itself is a dual-natured song, in that it's telling people, especially women, that they're perfect just the way they are and if they enjoy what they do, keep doing it and nevermind what others say while at the same time pointing to haters and the media, telling them tearing others down will never build yourself up so look at your own lives and try to better yourselves all the 'controversies' mentioned throughout the song ('president hwasa dressed ridiculous at the airport', the mention of 'panties sticking out' and so on) are actual things that happened, primarily to hwasa (who co-wrote this song). they were the korean citizens and media trying to blow things out of proportion, pointing out how hwasa wore a sports bra to the airport, then when that was pointed out she went to the airport in a shirt with no bra, or how she wore a pair of pants with built in boxer-briefs designed to be visible also, hwasa is actually the youngest member of the group, though only a few months younger than her childhood best friend, wheein (the environmentalist in the mv). they're both '95 liners, while moonbyul, the rapper is '92 line (as someone else mentioned) and the blonde, solar, is '91 line (and the group's leader. the only real official position they've got). none are mothers yet, though hwasa really wants to be you probably want to check out more music first, especially some of their live performances, since mamamoo is always better live, but i do want to put the 2 part introduction series by purplehawke on your radar, so you can get to know all four women a bit better. each video is about half an hour long, though, and focuses on two members, so you may feel more comfortable breaking it up into 4 uploads (though, to be honest, most mamamoo fans love watching longer videos)

Many of their songs have positive lyrics (and many were written by them, especially Moonbyul the rapper, she wrote majority of her raps). If you are comfortable, I would recommend that you react to the introduction guide to MAMAMOO by Purple Hawke and get to know the girls a little bit more, and maybe take comfort in their personality and antics? To know a little about their journey as a kpop idol, you can also watch the introduction to MAMAMOO by sondery. *Hwasa* - (your bias) starting her career she was told that she wouldn't make it because she didn't fit the beauty standards, she responded by saying if she didn't fit those standards she would set her own beauty standards (she's not a mom that's a kid actor) *Moonbyul* - (rapper) at the beginning was told to dress in what she said made her feel uncomfortable clothing but she put her foot down, now dresses in what she wants mainly suits. She trained as a vocalist but was told if she wanted to debut in this group she had to learn to rap because the other three were strong vocalists. She learned quickly and is highly coveted rapper, writer *Solar* - (boxer) questioned why it was ok for male idols to rip their shirts off on stage but female idols weren't allowed to be to sexy. At an awards show during a performance she ripped her shirt off revealing sports bra and extremely toned abs to everyone's surprise. Mamamoo is my favorite group, this song doesnt show case their extreme vocal skills but does show there extreme performance skills. Sorry for the super long post but lets get you caught up to Mamamoo and on the way to becoming a MooMoo They sing so well live, it sounds recorded and edited. They are as skilled vocally as a group like band-maid is skilled musically. Extreme talent. Hwasa was the one you mentioned the most, no she is not a mother, just played one for the song but you got the point. They are basically smacking down haters and in general shallow people trying to be hip when not, going for clicks and likes for the sake of doing it because they have nothing else. The rapper is MoonByul, Wheein is the one with the blue hair and my bias is the boxer/princess/rocker who is Solar. Solar is the oldest and leader of the group. they do just about every genre from Jazz, big band, reggae and R&B, Latin and more. Their MVs from their Debut Mr Ambiguous looks like its from the 1960s, Piano Man in the 1930s to what you just saw, and more. But they really are a live performance group because they can sing that well and perform that well and they always go extreme for production. All 4 of them also have Solo albums. A little history with why they have messages like this song, they were told they would be considered unattractive by Korean beauty standards. Too short, wrong shapes, skin too dark and the only way they would succeed is extreme singing and performing talent, which of course they did. They took a lot of heat, Especially hwasa who you called out. It got to the point where the group said they will set their own standard and screw what women are "supposed" to do. Now they are considered the cutting edge of ignoring cultural requirements and women getting accepted in their country beyond a standard look. There are a few songs like this. They do write some of their own music, the rapper is actually one of the most credited artists for lyrics in Korea. Watch a few more videos. Hwasa just release a new album last month, MoonByul and Wheein are releasing albums like next week and Solar has not said when but check out her Solarsido you tube. Mamamoo is a group in which each of this amazing women where outcasted, singled out and judged BEcause of their age, voice, personality and their looks. Solar was 'too old' Moonbyul was 'too androgenous' Wheein was 'too sultry (voice)' Hwasa was 'too ugly' This women since they one have been breaking every single stereotype out there and in a culture as strict or controled as Korea and in an industry as demanding as entertainment... They have made such an impact. They are now also successfull solocists and recognized by their pears. They fought and succeeded. It wasn't easy. But their journey is so inspiring.

the girl @04:33 is called "Hwasa" (Ahn Hye-jin) as receives a lot of critisism since shes not fitting the beauty standards in the k-pop industry. But the other girls of mamamoo support her as well as the fans. Many female fans that are somewhat insecure gained a lot from Hwasa. the most requests will be Mamamoo - Killing Voice(it's a medley of their songs) and Immortal Songs medley. the Killing Voice has English subtitles but the other one don't. Immortal Songs medley is some of the songs they performed in the Korean competition show Immortal Songs 2. in this show they have a legendary guest singer from 60's, 70's, etc and the contenders pick a song of the guest and make a remake/rearrange of it. if you watch the Immortal Songs medley you won't understand that these are not their songs and yet they can make you think that this is the music that they do cause they own it. everything that Mamamoo does they own it. and it's not easy to go to Immortal Songs show cause they want good vocals. Mamamoo have 14 performances in this show(these performances are on a playlist on youtube with English subtitles) and they're the only female group with so many. the other female group with most performances has 4. the only reason they stopped going is cause their schedule was busy and it was stressful to go to Immortal Songs. some times they went to the show with just 1 day rest from a concert, live performance, etc. their 1st performance was 6 months after they debut(and their label has no power and influence to make the show invite them) and the 2nd was after 1 month. 1 performance was enough to convince them that they must be invited more. in their 1st performance they beat some of the senior singers and they got highly praised for their vocals, stage presence, and performance from the senior singers and the hosts, and 1 of the hosts said that they will win rookie of the year. and they did win. other groups use variety shows to promote their new song. Mamamoo used Immortal Songs to promote their new song. Queens. btw, Mamamoo are crackheads. there are tons of funny videos to watch and laugh. the best one is "Why MAMAMOO should stop hosting their own show": absolute chaos. BTS and Mamamoo are the original crackheads. most Kpop groups want to have a clean image(some groups were like "WTF they're doing" when Mamamoo went nuts cause they're not crackheads like Mamamoo) and before BTS and Mamamoo the other groups were more reserved. after BTS and Mamamoo showed their crackhead side, other groups started to loosen up a bit.

The rabbit hole you have gone down is the MooMoo rabbit hole. MooMoo is the Mamamoo fandom name. They have been around 7 years and they just don’t care what the industry thinks. They debuted in 2014 with a retoish sound with Mr Ambiguous as their first comeback . Peppermint Chocolate and Be Happy were pre releases I believe. Piano Man, their second comeback also had the retro feel. Um Oh Ah Yeh is the first song I listens to, but then I was not big into KPop so they kind of feel off my radar until this song dropped then I found myself really checking them out. Egotistic, apart of the 4 seasons 4 colors concept that spanned 4 albums, is my favorite song. I call HIP “the song to their haters” because it’s them saying they don’t care what others think. They made a reference with a real event that happed with Hwasa with the “President Hwasa dress inappropriate at airport”. Byul, purple hair, is my favorite member. Solar, blonde is my second fav and bias wrecker. 4 queens. They are known for their vocals. Immortal Song Melody that is a melody of songs they did from a show called Immortal Songs , Dingga killing voice. They are killer performers, they won a competition show called Queendom. Byul is about to release her 3ed solo album, Solar released 1 solo, Wheein is about to release her second, Hwasa recently released her 3ed solo. Moonbyul- trained for years to be a vocalist but had to switch to rapping “because her voice was not on par with the other 3, 4 vocalist would be to much, ect” but I disagree. Their Dysopia trilogy, Scream and Boca specifically were anti cyber bullying. They debuted in 2017 with Chase Me, the first song in their 6 part Nightmare story. 5 members of Dreamcatcher were a group called MINX that debuted in 2014, but that concept was not working so they took the former members of MINX, added two members and changed the entire concept and sound. 7 talented women that are diverse in what genres they can sing - B sides are other genres. I Stan current groups- Mamamoo, Monsta X , Dreamcatcher. 3 groups that I feel have their own sound. TVXQ, BoA, Big Bang and 2NE1 were the groups/solo I listened to, but never really stand. I only have a hand full of songs for other KPop groups but I could not tell you the names of the members aside from Red Velvet and maybe 1 member from some other groups.

If you like rock and mental music, I recommend Dreamcatcher. It’s a kpop girl group that uses a lot of rock sounds in there music! I suggest: BEcause, BOCA, Odd Eye, Scream (Any of those is my top fav)
