Hey Josh, would you consider projecting the detailed info (e.g. "This laptop has Intel blah blah, 16GB RAM, and 250GB nvme storage" etc.) on the screen when you are mentioning it? It is much better to see the basics on the screen. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for actually putting out real numbers instead of only GeekBench scores. Seeing the i5 Macbook still right up there with other small notebooks is great. Picked one up after seeing your recommendation and review. Couldn't wait for the new ARM Macbooks due to needing a laptop for uni, so I ended up getting a 13 inch 10th gen Macbook and I couldn't be happier. it's built way better than the HP and the Acers I briefly used and the screen is excellent. It's good to see dell put out the 11th gen chips out so quick but I would be very wary of getting a Dell seeing their screw ups with the XPS 15 and 17. I was considering one of these after returning a 2nd faulty Acer, but after seeing how slow Dell's support also was when I had a few queries I decided to avoid. Go on the Dell subreddit all you end up reading about are faults after faults which is not something I want to be dealing with. I also don't get why they didn't make the 4k panel capable of 100% DCI P3, 90% doesn't make any sense if you want to do any photo or video editing on the go. I'm not sure what the support experience is like in other countries, but in the UK Dell and Acer are both bad, and there's a high chance you'll have to reach out to them if you buy one of their devices. Also as an extra note, Anyone thinking of getting an Acer in the UK, I would avoid like the plague. They sent me 2 faulty devices in a row, you have to wait on hold for 45 minutes + just to get some help, and they often ignore emails. The ConceptD 7 is built terribly as well. Both models I received had bad backlight bleed which is awful for a device apparently made for creators.

Don't get fooled by Intel's marketing materials where they always hugely glorify their inferior products and give mouthful of architecture name. This has same architecture as in Ice lake but can run faster due to mature 10nm fabrication, hence the better single threaded performance. They did add a bigger GPU die but as Josh suggested, while running GPU heavy tasks, the cpu gets power throttled and can't reach the full speed, resulting degraded performance, even compared to Ice Lake.

@123Suryasis
@123Suryasis 3 жыл бұрын
@@alexanderschulte8248 There are reviews of thee laptops already...New Swift 3, Asus Zenbook 14 and Zenbook Flip 13 and all are having exact issues described in this review. XPS is considered the highest end Windows 13 inch Ultrabook and that suffers too. If you consider properly cooled IdeaPad Slim 7 with 4800u then the multi threaded performance reaches the level of within 15% of 8 core i7-10875H. You have to check the overall performance across the board, not by picking up the laptop with best thermal solutions. If you do that for AMD too, it gives an altogether performance of a different league. IdeaPad 5 14 is a 3 lbs laptop costs less than half of XPS 13 and even the 4500u was able to outperform 1165G7 in cpu benchmarks, not really looking good.

I also have this but the 2-in-1 version. The interesting part is that Cinebench scores for me vary from 1400 up to 2000 (with latest BIOS 1.1.1). Sometimes the power envelope falls to 12w unnecessarily as the CPU temps are around 50C. Weird. Definitely Dell needs to work more on the BIOS power curves.

Thank you, very good review, much more reasoned and detailed than other reviewers' (perhaps just a bit too fast spoken, at least for me whose mother-language is not english). BTW, I suspect we'll have to get hands on other implementations from other vendors or other laptos from Dell itself to fully understand the potential of the 11th generation Intel processor with the Xe Iris graphics and fully compare it to the AMD ryzen. Perhaps, the xps 9310 is simply a not enough mature design

It wasn't clear but it sounds like these laptops were all plugged in when running the tests. I think 11th gen is supposed to feature some pretty nifty battery performance modes. How about 4K video playback tests? I think one of the new features Intel is pushing is that 11th gen can playback 4K smoothly compared before.

Honestly its probably driver issues/ lack of support, when intel was showing off Doom and BF5 on tiger lake it was running great but had several visual glitches. It'd be interesting to see an update review some months later when developers begin to optimize for tiger lake.

Most likely to be due to Dell 15 W limitation. Both CPU and GPU running hard on this power VS 28 used for benchmark them ?
@Mico605
@Mico605 3 жыл бұрын
Game developers dont optimize for one CPU generation unless we are talking about consoles. Intel would have to pay them or these CPUs would really have to take off and be extremly popular. Nvidia and AMD optimize their drivers to improve game performance, not the other way around. I dont see any reason why game devs would prioritize optimizing for tiger lake when it doesnt benefit them at all to do so.
@cominder64
@cominder64 3 жыл бұрын
@@Mico605 It would benefit them to get more laptops able to run their product outside of dedicated gaming machines and workstations. AMD has a dedicated gaming division for gpu's, Intel is still relatively new to the market but has a large cpu base especially in the laptop scene.

It's because of how the XPS laptops are designed. They're unnecessarily thin to the point that they can't be cooled effectively.

@Hugh 1 Their Bionic chip is actually very strong, maybe not as good as Intel/AMD best, but they are more power efficient. They can easily replaced those throttled i3/i5 in their Macbook Air lineup. There's no point putting a potentially powerful chip inside a chasis that cannot cool it. At least for the average apple users, it's an upgrade honestly. Well that is if Apple pull off the App support/convert from x86 to ARM flawlessly.

Hi Josh, I have also just reviewed the XPS 9310 and 2in1 and I am getting much higher cinebench scores than you are! I am trying to work out why we are getting such differing results? my CPUs never drop below 21watts. What was your ambient temperature there? My office was approximately 20c
@JustJoshTech
@JustJoshTech 3 жыл бұрын
That is fantastic for you. I have replied to several others about your scores. My ambient temperatures were very cool. I have had 4 of these XPS laptops both 10th and 11th gen. Several units I have owned and tested for many months, and produced many videos on them. Including my i5 vs i7 video and my videon on how to run your laptop cool and quiet. My scores are in line with my prior experience and extensive testing of this laptop. At the end of the day, I must represent the end user, and these are the scores an end user would receive if they had the same units delivered to their door. Here is another video on the 10th gen version of this laptop where I test extensively: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pNyGq5yhmNmdgJc.html . Anyway once again, its great that you are getting higher scores, but unfortuantely I am not.

@@JustJoshTech hi Josh, thanks for the reply. I am certainly not doubting your testing metrology and have also watched most of your previous reviews (love your channel). I know ur channel content is different but still hear me out i need expert advise. . I bought a new laptop(ASUS TUF FX504GM) which has two video cards nvidia gforce gtx 1060 and integrated graphics by Intel ... Now the problem is the display of laptop is connected with integrated graphics .. so whenever I run something heavy like games or rendering something ... Laptop hits up as integrated Intel graphics run and CPU as well ... I tried various things like 1.Changing display settings through nvidia control panel .. 2. Disableling integrated graphics driver 3.I tried changing through bios but there was no such option .. Whenever I connect external display it works fine with nvidia . Laptops dosent heat up .. So in conclusion i want u to suggest mi how exatly can I change my display driver from integrated to nvidia graphics ... Ur videos r always grt btw..!

Thank you for this video, Josh! I have a question: USB4 comes in 2 different speeds: USB4 20 Gbps & USB4 40 Gbps. When Intel says Tiger Lake's Thunderbolt 4 includes USB4, does this necessarily mean that all Thunderbolt 4 ports include support for USB4 40 Gbps? Or can the manufacturer choose to only support USB4 20 Gbps? In other words, is it possible to come across a Thunderbolt 4 port that, while supporting Thunderbolt 4 devices at 40 Gbps, only supports USB4 devices at a maximum of 20 Gbps? Or is that not an option under the Thunderbolt 4 certification?
