I quit WTF by the time I got red belt, which is the last belt before black, and then I started ITF. Now I am yellow belted, which is the second belt you get, an I am already a better fighter than I ever was in WTF. WTF is sports, ITF is martial arts. I'm glad I switched.

I have a friend who is WTF black belt. I'm a ITF green blue and my friend claims I soar better than him after seeing a clip of me sparring

Used to watch this everyday before training when I was in middle school, got my black belt and switched to Muay Thai but those years training will forever be in my mind, and this video is one that motivates me to this day

ITF taekwondo is more complete than WTF I hate how taekwondo gets all this negative reception because of the WTF If you wanna practice a more realistic and the true original taekwondo I suggest ITF.

negative reception??? give me a break....all your words are based in your way of thinking . The differences exist in the simple fact of politics , itf is from North Korea and wtf in from the south os Korea, Accttualy both are good martial arts , very different but both good , different styles. I don´t like the brainwash of the itf , Here in Argentina , ITF is very popular but anyone can teach , there are no federations , wtf have a few federations but they are very organized , and by the way the last gold medal in the olimpics games is From Here Crismanich , he is from wtf . keep training in any federation , martial arts are the best for the spirit

Higyseg Uocra Hi Uocra. I am Korean and my English is not good but you have some misunderstanding about Teakwondo, so now let I say something. First, ITF is also South Korea martial art. More fact, ITF is oroginal teakwondo. In political problem, The Originator Master 최홍희 had to go foregin country. He was given order of exile from old Korea goverment(He was General in army but a lower General than 최홍희 carry out a coup and he((his name is 박정희)) became a new president, took order his oppenent people) 최홍희 already developed Teakwondo and taught it people but Master couldnt choose live more Korea. So he went to Canada with a few sa-bum and orgnized Teakwondo federation. After Master leave Korea, 박정희 goverment make new Teakwondo from remaind Master's research works and some sa-bum. That is WORLD TEAKWONDO. So Master had difference from rebuild Teakwond, renamed his Teakwondo INTERNATIONAL TEAKWONDO. Master was trying to return his home however 박정희 and next presidents(전두환, 김영삼, 노태우, 김대중) refused his homecoming. Than, Master taught Teakwondo all people except South Korea. One day North Korea want to come ITF sa-bum and teah N.Koreans. At that time Master thought 'I am South Korean obvious(He also was General!!!). But The martial art do not be tangled ideologise.' SO that, ITF sent sa-bum to N korea But fucking N.Goverment after took all ITF skills, started propagate "Look!!! IT is our!!! South Korea has WT But that is just sport, IT's trash version, kid playing huh?! arent' you?" And unfortunately, that propaganda is spread my country very well. I dont know really that misconception exists other country. Do you understand? second ITF is originally generated to Fight. Through Age of Japan Empire rule, Korea's tradition had been erased... so Master felt I have to creat Korea martial art, more modern style. That is why ITF has martial artic sprits also but less than WTF.

That's true and i believe the guys here did not understand what u wanted to say. TKD has bad reputation cuz of WTF which main training, emphasizes inside the rules of its tournaments whereas ITF has mre freedom of moves, more punches plus that training does not emphasizes on prepairing its students for tournaments but learning a martial art for self defence.

+bloodcorer you couldn't have said it better. My instructor even says he doesn't want us to just know "tournament fighting style ". thats why we practice a lot more of the more basic and practical punches and kicks, and not just what a tournament allows.

Yes you're right. In ITF, sparring more realistically simulates a real-life situation. The only safety pads required are hand, foot and groin shield. Shin pads are not checked for in competitions but they are usually worn. Headguard is mandatory until 2nd dan to prevent injuries to beginners (both kicks & punches to the head are allowed and happen more often than WTF), after which it is disallowed.

K.O's always happen, in semi-contact aswell. in itf taekwon-do I am pretty sure the rules say full contact to the body and semi contact to the head, that is in world championships, european championships and the big ones at the least. Though seeing the match-ups with the blackbelts here in norway I can say for sure you get full contact more or less all the time. In blackbelt sparring the judges dont really mind that much.

In ITF tournaments, hand and foot techniques are allowed to the head and below the belt, but the rules state "light contact". In WTF tournaments, techniques below the belt are not allowed and you can only use your feet to strike the head. WTF allows for full contact sparing, but uses head and body protectors. Additionally, you cannot use the ground in WTF; ITF you are allowed to kick and fall or stabilize your spinning kicks using your hand on the ground. Hope that helps. Ask if you want more.

I started ITF Taekwon-Do 39 years ago... and I've been punching for 39 years. In Gen Choi's martial art, all hand techniques you may find in karate and boxing are known, taught and used in self-defense and most of them in sport. Unfortunately, due only to politics, only WTF Taekwondo (note spelling) and its rules are allowed in the Olympics and therefore known to most people. What you see here is nothing new to me and 20 millions other fellow ITF students and instructors. THIS is Taekwon-Do.

I'd much rather step in front of a WTF 3rd dan. I'm a 1st dan in ITF myself and I from most of the WTF people I've talked to our breaking requirements are a lot tougher than WTF. For instance I had to break 4 boards with a flying side piercing kick for 1st dan, while a co-worker of mine, who was WTF, was preparing for his 2nd dan test and his required power foot break was only 2 boards with a standing side piercing kick. I had to do that for high green.

Mario,never let your opponent surprise you,you surprise him.Always used the hard part of your body to hit the sift part of the body.Never use a left jab,use a finger jab,and low kicks to the knees.

im a wtf student and i must say; i think i like itf sparring more because it forces you to come in contact more with the body, where as in wtf we hit mainly the chest gaurd

ITF in a real fight if it can be used perfectly, I although I am very good at practicing before I had a hard time winning some fights by letting myself be consumed by anger and not thinking about the blows I threw, I threw extremely fast but imprecise and weak movements

It doesn't matter if it's light contact, ITF sparring is much more dangerous than WTF. By proper technique and speed, a light-contact strike from ITF fighter is still very powerful and damaging. This is why in many cases, ITF has their junior competition wear helmet (even karate one) and WTF-type body protector to compete, for safety reason. Don't ask me about injuries, way way too many.

Whle this might have been true originally, the only teacher i know of who, today, teaches taekwon-do as self defence (Martys California kickback taekwon-do [He's a bit of a funny guy :3]) is quite a big name in both ITF and WTF. His reasons for this: ITF makes sence, but the WTF suit looks better :P

I respect WTF style,they have great athletes and dedicated people to the art,but ITF is the real Taekwon -Do, because is first than WTF.The forms of ITF is pure defense and attack ,in the forms of ITF you see fingers strike to the eyes,arm braking swepping to the legs punching from the floored,hooking kick twisting kick,etc.When you complete the first eight forms of the ITF,you complete all the vitall parts of the body.ITF is make to protect your self and kill or destroy the opponents .

i'm a blue stripe i am pritty good at sparring but sometimes i lose control and hit people. one thing you'll like about me is that i'm always trying to inprove my self to be faster and strong than my a apponet even if he is a black belt. i love sparring black belts

@veshkeat depending some matchs and tournement knock outs are aloud and the tournemnts that dont aloow it its ok if they walk into it like if u threw a side kick and they ran into it and got knock out

ITF Taekwondo IS MADE IN A REAL FIGHT. WTF is a limited fighter .. Sometimes events you forget how the fighter to defend yourself in close range. ITF is the remedy ... STILL MISSING A LOT OF THINGS. VERY GOOD VIDEO. I LIKE.
