Thankyou for setting this up. I have the nz7 and love reading and hearing about all the updates. Was trying to use the main thread on avs forums, but people there just seem to want to pick fights with each other. I hope Kris and Sammie know the silent majority appreciate their hard work and keeping us up to date.

My current projector is a optoma uhz65 theo version I'm getting a new projector by the end of the year l really want the best upgrade l can have in my budget which is 12 grand should l get the nz7 but since the new nz800 and nz900 are not that big of an upgrade should l go after a used nz8 or nz9

An NZ8 bit.ly/TM_AA_JVC_NZ8 is a great buy at that budget right now or just save cash and go for the NZ7, IMO. Who knows though too, we could see an NZ700 at some point as well. They may have just decided not to release it now. If you need help sourcing a projector, do reach out to me at techthusiasm_jp@outlook.com. It's a huge boon to the channel and helps me work towards an NZ900! :)

I decided against asking my flatscreen question especially after they didn't speak too highly about using them for the Theater.😂 I'll hold my question until you have your next Audio/Video experts.💯🥳

It would have been fine at the end. I don't think the discussion was down on using TVs for video in general, but more so focused on theater rooms where a projector provides the most impactful experience.

great video. I just came across your channel and this is the right video for me. Holy cow. I'm a big 8k Mini led fan. and I own a 75 Z9D for 3D and I love my old 3D movies. but now I'm thinking about JVC NZ900 because it is 8K and 3D. any input about a 3D image on a NZ9 or NZ900? that would be great. passive 3D decent enough on either one?

I'm not a 3D fan, so I don't use my home theater for it, but 3D does work well in the JVC including the coming models, AFAIK. Please reach out to me at techthusiasm_jp@outlook.com, and I can help you get hooked up with new gear.

Are there particular "best" 3D glasses these days? or just the JVC branded ones?

I don't understand why nobody ever talks about building a HTPC video processor for pennies on the dollar of a MadVR. It has state of the art tone mapping, aspect ratio control, and most of the other MadVR features and costs between $1,000-$2,000. If you are an enthusiast with an HDR projector (especially with a 2.40:1 screen) and not a multimillionaire, this is no-brainer. Yes, there is a steep learning curve, but that's half the fun.
@Techthusiasm
@Techthusiasm 3 ай бұрын
I don't really agree with the sentiment. There are a lot of things you can approximate with a DIY solution, but you're usually giving up features, usability, and significant time in a trade for the dollars. I don't believe that a DIY PC madVR is nearly the same as a real thing.
@mikerenna4027
@mikerenna4027 3 ай бұрын
@@Techthusiasm There are certain features on the MadVr processor that you can't really do on a HTPC like nonlinear stretch and motion interpolation. However, the main features which I consider most important, like auto aspect ratio control, HDR tone mapping, subtitle shifting, and upscaling are superbly handled by a properly set up HTPC with MadVr software (free), the correct capture card (about $400), the "Video Processor" software (also free), and a decent video card ($500). I have an Epson 5050UB with a 2.40 screen and before this solution, HDR was very disappointing. The HDR tone mapping of the projector just isn't very good. It looked worse than SDR no matter what I tried. I also had to program multiple screen size memories depending on what ratio I was watching and refocus the image every time I changed it. Now, HDR content looks stunning, and the video size changes instantly to fit my screen the moment the aspect ratio changes. All for one tenth the price of a MadVr. I'm just saying, it's a viable option that shouldn't always be ignored when there is a discussion about video processors.

@@mikerenna4027 I need to build one. I did a ton of research towards the end of 2022 but have made the jump yet. I don’t value video enough to buy a mad vr but the diy option is in my value to cost scope.

Big issue unfortunately on the Mics gain, we can't heard anything from Kris without bumping a lot the sound level but then the other 2 become way too loud.

Why do they refuse to include Dolby Vision at this price point?

I thought we touched on this in the stream, but I always understood lack of DV in projectors like this to be a function of variable installation and DV certification requires known constants.

NX7 owner here and looking to upgrade. Thinking an NZ800 would be a substantial improvement in brightness?
@Techthusiasm

Yes, I think NX7 to NZ800 would be a substantial upgrade in light and other features. I'm currently using an NX7 and am very eager now to move to one of the new models. If you're shopping the new projector, please consider Audio Advice bit.ly/TM_AA_JVC_NZ800 or if they don't work for you, reach out to me at techthusiasm_jp@outlook.com, and I can put you in touch with some other options. Thanks!

@@Techthusiasm I’m pushing my NX7 to its limits with an a-lens and 165” scope screen. Brightness is my main limiting factor. I wish it was brighter. So the NZ800 would hopefully solve that issue for the most part. I’d actually love to not need the extra lens but I can’t fill my large screen without it - and I cannot move my projector any further back (it’s at the back of the room already). 16x9 looks a bit brighter without the lens in place but as stated, need the lens for the size/stretch.

So much hate on Sony projectors guys. Don't get why... and you don't say why, just downplay Sony.
@Techthusiasm

I don't think we threw any hate. I do think we all agree JVC makes the more compelling unit, but we all want the same thing, that being good units and competition from more brands.
@Macroproxy
@Macroproxy 3 ай бұрын
Overall I agree. JVC is a better choice for most... mostly because of tone mapping. All of the side by side comparisons where the crowd goes crazy because a NZ8 vs 7000 is mostly chalked up to tone mapping. I agree, if MSRP is the ruling price, JVC all the way. But my experience has been different. Comments like, mess with the JVC color bias setting and you've turned it into a Sony...

@Macroproxy Sony's aren't bad projectors and if it came off that way that wasn't our intention. I've even had a 7000 in my space for awhile and its a good projector. My issues with their models are more so due to long standing issues they have. Some people see these issues some do not. First I would say that I highly, highly, highly value contrast so having a high native contrast is super important to me. Sony needs to do a bit better in this area for me personally, they also need to fix an issue where they drop contrast with a single pixel. Meaning out of the 8.3 million pixels in a 4K image if sony has a single pixel shown it drops contrast the only one that doesn't do this is a 380. Next is they have posterization and banding in gradients. This can be seen in standard content. Think of a cloudy sunset sky, or the Spears and Munsil montage fade in. The Sony's will show banding the JVC's will not. This has been around forever. They also have a jitter/shimmer on high frequency content. Think something high resolution and very fine like hair. Depending on how the Sony is setup it has a jitter/shimmer. Then there are a few other little things. Again not saying its bad they throw a great picture. They're bright, quiet, lighter, and have a higher gamut coverage than JVC without needing a filter. Price to performance is kind of questionable being that say a 7000 cost more than a NZ9 and has less performance and features (tone mapping needs to be better, no hdmi 2.1, etc.) they still throw a great image. Its just that I know these issues exist and I can see them so for me personally I couldn't do a Sony. As for my comment about mess with the bias and you turned the JVC into a Sony was probably harsh lol. The reason I said it though is because lets say if you have a JVC which would generally have a native contrast ratio with fully open aperture of say 22,000:1 where a Sony might be less say 12,000:1. Based on how they work if the bias is changed it raises the black floor, which in turn lowers the contrast which kind of defeats the purpose of getting the JVC if you want the contrast. If setup correctly the contrast on a JVC will actually increase. As crazy as this sounds one of the projectors I recommend people look at if they're interested in Sony's is the 6000 and I recommend that pretty often because it based on their needs, not mine.
@Macroproxy
@Macroproxy 3 ай бұрын
@@sammie_prescott I mostly agree with you. Most of what you are saying is fact. Although I've never seen banding on good sources.., but you aren't the first knowledgeable person to say that, even if you are a JVC fanboy (joking). The show Fallout definitely had it, but I tested it and it was bad elsewhere too. I don't know what you are talking about with the fine hair jitter. Motion on the JVC was very annoying to me... but I actually like motion interpolation on low with the Sony, so im weird... It has some artifacts, but 95% of the time it's so much better than 24hz. I have an ALR screen. I have kids. Brightness is important. All that being said... I agree JVC is doing better overall, especially with tone mapping which is the biggest advantage to me. But if you have a processor that is negated. Black floor is nice indeed, but maybe it's because I have a negative gain ALR screen, the Sonys blacks certainly don't look bad in my room. I've seen them side by side on white screens, so I know why the audience gets worked up in a demo like that, 100% if JVC tone mapping is at play. But there are definitely issues with the JVC, and in some situations like mine, I think Sony makes a lot of sense. For the most part I agree. But gets a little old hearing jabs at Sony. Personally I'm a little annoyed at this JVC release. Feels more like to me they just aren't going to produce as many and bin them higher. And now they have a new model number to firmware artificially outdate the NZ8 and NZ9 to get people to upgrade. I'm less impressed with this release than the firmware update to the last model. The firmware update gave me some JVC envy. Wish Sony would support updates.
