I don't know If this is true but I think I read somewhere that the mask is originally created by Rimuru from another timeline and entrusted it to Chloe and then Chloe goes back in time and gave the mask to Shizu. Then Shizu gave the mask to Rimuru and he gave the mask back to Chloe eventually. That's why he said it felt right that he gave the mask to Chloe. Though the point is Chloe is the owner, Rimuru is just its creator.

But children's bodies aren't mature enough to protect their bodies properly and the energy absorbed often isn't manifested as a unique skill, so the energy goes haywire and their young bodies are torn apart from the inside. Rimuru is a unique case among unique cases as unlike almost every other case, only his soul was transferred over which usually burns the soul and causes it to break upon entry, but his soul was strong enough to endure with out a body to protect itself and attuned two unique skills which were aspects of two ultimate skills which were shattered by the creator God for being too powerful. Similar to a Pure light or Pure dark spirit which allows an individual to inherit a hero's egg, the counterpart to a demon lord's seed. Likely during their first journey with their childhood friend Leon where Leon gained a light or dark spirit (more likely a dark spirit.) where the egg latter hatched and they were awoken as a true hero. Due to the unique case of Chloe and their hypothetical protection from the spirit of time, things went differently for them and resulted in a bizarre time loop regarding getting separated from Leon when they both got pulled over and Chloe eventually receiving the mask and eventually finding a way to break the cycle in the main timeline that the anime takes place in. It's directly stated that Chloe through many trials and errors eventually created the main timeline where Rimuru awoke far earlier then the war with the eastern empire and revived their own mask from Shizu. Hoping that the timeline where he awoke earlier would lead him down a path where he would have the power early enough to break the cycle. Much of this is hypothetical however. The true source of the mask and how the time loop started has never been confirmed in actuality.

And isn’t their otherworld lucky that of all the people who could be Diablo’s master, it’s someone as prosocial and win-win as Rimuru. 👍 ------ Not just for Diablo, in the whole series: whoever Rimuru helps or takes care of gets to live their best life. At least he & his people do what they can with whatever is within their power. The only times he actually hurt others was when those who want to kill him and those he loves forces the situation. He’s not perfect, but as a leader he’s elevated his people’s quality of life, protected them from those who would harm them, and gave people opportunities to thrive, start over, and live well.
