Խորհրդային Հայաստանի 70 տարիների ընթացքում Հայաստանի բնակչության թիվը հնգապատկվել է։ Արեւմտյան Հայաստանի բնակչության թիվը մինչեւ ցեղասպանությունը 2․5 միլիոն էր և եթե տեղի չունենար ցեղասպանությունը, ապա հիմա Հայաստանի բնակչության թիվը կարող էր լինել մոտ 13-15 միլիոն։
