국가무형문화재 제 92호로 지정되어 명가 故강선영에서 보유자 양성옥에 의해 전승되고 있다. 태평무는 당대 최고의 명무이신 故한성준에 의해 구성되었다. 전래의 왕십리 당국에 특이한 무속장단을 바탕으로 경쾌하고 절도가 있어 우리 민속춤만의 정중동의 흥과 멋을 지니고 있다.
태평무가 어느시기부터 전승되었는지는 확실히 알 수 없으나 문헌기록이나 구전으로 보아 약 100년전부터 추어 왔던 춤 임에는 틀림없다 .
태평무의 내용은 나라의 풍년과 태평성대를 축원하는 뜻을 담고 있으며, 또한 위엄과 격조가 높으면서도 경쾌하고, 가볍고도 절도있게 몰아치는 발 디딤새가 특징이라 할수 있다. 음악은 경기 도당굿을 토대로 낙궁, 터벌림, 섭채, 올림채, 도살풀이, 자진도살풀이로 구성되어 있고 우리 민속음악의 대표적인 가락과 장단이 고루 어우러져 매우 독특하며 아름다운 조화를 이루고 있다.

Taepyeongmu has been designated as National Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 92 and has been handed down by Kang Seonyeong and Yang Seoungok. Taepyeongmu was composed by Han Seongjun, the best dancer of the era.
Based on the unique shamanic rhythm of the old Wangsimni area, Taepyeongmu is light and sophisticated, and it has the excitement and beauty of Jeong-Jung-Dong, a Korean folk dance. It is not known for certain when Taepyeongmu was handed down, but it is presumed that it has been practiced for about 100 years according to documentary records and oral traditions.
Taepyeongmu contains the meaning of wishing for prosperous and peaceful prosperity for the nation.
In addition, it is characterized by dignified movements, dignified and rhythmical, and light and moderate steps. The accompaniment music consists of Nakgung, Teobeollim, Seopchae, Ollimchae, Dosalpuri, and Jajindosalpuri based on Gyeonggidodanggut and is a very unique and beautiful harmony with the typical melody and rhythm of Korean folk music.
