Moksha Dweep, an island, was formed by two rivers - Kosasthalaiyar and Kallaru by encircling and forming the village Kesavaram. At Kesavaram Dam, the Kosasthalaiyar river splits into two rivers. The second river thus originates here is called as Cooum river. Kosasthalayar river, believed as Moksha Nadhi flows from south to north called Uttaravauhini.
Kailasa Eswaramudaiya Mahadevar Temple, a structural stone temple built by Kulottunga Chola I (1070 - 1122 A.D.). The temple has Chola period inscriptions. The inscription Kulottunga Chola I registers the contribution of Uriyur village as a land endowment to Kailaya Eswaramudaiya Mahadevar. The Ezhulagamudaiyaal, the queen of Kulothunga Chola I, made grants to construct the Kailaya Eswaramudaiya Mahadevar temple.
And also, the 17th-century inscription at the temple mentions this temple as Dakshina Kalahasthi, equivalent to Kasi and Gaya Kshetras, and anyone bathing in the Moksha Nadhi and worshipping the Koodal Sangameswarar atop the Panchatchara Giri and then Kailai Eswaramudaiya Mahadevar will be freed from future births and attain Moksha.
The east-facing temple does not have gopura or flagstaff. Instead, the stone temple has the Gajaprishta Vimana resembling the backside of the sleeping elephant. The temple has the Sanctum, Ardha-Mandapam and Maha Mandapam. The simple PadaBandha base (Adhishtanam) with Upa-Peeta, Jagadi, Tripatta Kumuda, Khanta and Pattika mouldings.
The beautiful sculptures of Ganesha, Dakshinamurthy, Lingodbhava, Brahma and Vishnu Durga are found in Goshta. The beautiful Ganesha, Dakshinamurthy, with an oversized Muyalagan at his feet, and a stylish Durga, resembles the 3D view. The west side vimana has Narasimha over Lingothbhavar, which is a unique feature here.
Beheaded idols of Dwara Ganapathy, Goddesses and Uma Sahitha Murthy lay dumped in a corner. The temple is currently in a dilapidated state. However, few volunteers have been spending reasonable effort and time in recent times to renovate this temple.
The temple built by Kulothunga Chola can be glorified only if the Government and Volunteers take action to recover to the initial state.
