कोल्हान में कुल 14 विधानसभा की सीटों हैं. चाईबासा, सराइकेला, चक्ररधरपुर, मनोहरपुर, मझगांव और जगरनाथपुर. कोल्हान की यह छः सीटें सिंहभूम लोकसभा सीट के अंतर्गत आती हैं. फिर जमशेपुर पूर्वी, जमशेदपुर पश्चमी, बहरागोड़ा, पोटका, जुगसलाई, घाटशिला, कोल्हान की यह छः सीटें जमशेदपुर लोकसभा सीट के अंतर्गत आती हैं.
कोल्हान की बाकि बची दो विधानसभा की सीटों में एक सीट खरसावां है जो खूंटी लोकसभा सीट के अंतर्गत आता है. जबकि दूसरी सीट, चौदवीं सीट ईचागढ़ है जो रांची लोकसभा सीट के अंतर्गत आता है. यानि कोल्हान की कुल विधानसभा की सीट हो गई 14.
कोल्हान की 14 में से 10 विधानसभा की सीटें एसटी रिजर्व्ड हैं औऱ सिर्फ एक सीट जुगसलाई एससी रिजर्व्ड है। और बाकि बची 3 सीटें जेनेरेल कैटेगोरी हैं। इनमें से सबसे कड़ी चुनौती भाजपा को 10 आदिवासी सीटों पर है।

Out of 14 assembly seats of Kolhan, 10 assembly seats are reserved for ST and only one seat Jugsalai is reserved for SC. And the remaining 3 seats are general category. Out of these, the toughest challenge for BJP is on 10 tribal seats.

First of all let's go to Baharagora. This is a general seat and last time JMM's Sameer Mohanty defeated BJP's Kunal Shadangi by a margin of more than double the votes. Sameer Mohanty got 1 lakh 6 thousand votes and Kunal Shadangi was reduced to just 45 thousand votes. Many of you must be knowing that Kunal Shadangi was earlier in JMM and just before the elections, he joined BJP. Even in the 2014 elections, he became MLA by defeating BJP's Dineshanand Goswami. Well, the interesting thing is that whoever the candidate is, BJP has been continuously losing the Baharagora assembly seat by a fair margin for the last three elections.
Baharagora is definitely a general seat, but the tribal population here is 41 percent. That is, 94 thousand are tribals. Muslims are also 5 percent. That is, on the basis of demographic data, 53 percent of the population seems to be creating problems for the BJP.
Now let's come to the second seat, Ghatsila. This is an ST reserved seat. Pradeep Balmuchu was MLA from here for two consecutive terms on Congress ticket. But in 2009 and 2019, Ramdas Soren of JMM managed to win here with a decent margin. This is the seat which BJP won in 2014, but lost in 2019. Tribals are also more than 48 percent in Ghatsila. Muslims are 9 percent here. This seat has also been difficult for BJP. That is why BJP has changed its candidate every time in the last three assembly elections from here.
The third seat of Kolhan is the Potka assembly seat. This is also a tribal seat. There has been a tough competition between BJP and JMM here. But in 2019, JMM's Sanjib Sardar defeated BJP's Maneka Sardar by double the margin of 50 thousand. The tribal population here is 52 percent. However, it is important to mention here that BJP had won from here in 2009 and 2014. But the changed circumstances are against them.
