Plastic water tank has good thermal conductivity. Inspite The optical properties of stainless steel 304 grade are also important to consider. This alloy has a high reflectance and a low absorption coefficient. Additionally, this alloy is resistant to UV light and has a high index of refraction. Plastic water tank is not UV resistant. Because of that only it is producing cancer cells. Want to switch over from hazardous plastic water tank to protective stainless steel water tank?

Good one.. now a days usage of stainless steel tanks are being recommended since plastic tanks causes cancer and other bowl issues... but price could have been specified

Sun light is mostly near infra red and infra red which causes water to heat. The torch light experiment is incorrect. Of course any shiny surface will reflect visible light. Need to test with infra red light source. Also SS has high thermal conductivity. So the tank water heats up fast and cool down fast as well according to the external temperature. For indoor purposes away from direct sunlight it is ok but not for replacing rooftop plastic water tanks.

Heat can be reflected by a mirror finished surface. Heat is a form of energy which is also carried by the light. SS Water Tanks also uses this phenomenon to reflect away heat and keep water cooler. The opposite usage can be found with solar cookers and solar water heaters. They concentrate light and heat using reflection to cook food and heat up water respectively.
