People often say that neighboring countries share common cultures. I believe that's a misconception. While Thailand shares borders with Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia, its art and culture exhibit both similarities and differences with these nations. Thailand has developed its own distinct identity in clothing, culture, language, and arts, distinguishing itself from Myanmar, Laos, and Malaysia. Clear territorial boundaries often lead to the development of unique characteristics in various aspects. The point I want to convey is that it's crucial not to misunderstand that Thailand and Cambodia share identical cultures, arts, or attire. Cambodia distinctly separated from Thailand and fell under French colonial rule in 1867, 146 years ago. Meanwhile, Thailand has evolved its arts, culture, clothing, and cuisine in alignment with its own direction, adapting to global trends and circumstances. Hence, it is implausible for Thailand and Cambodia to have nearly 100% identical cultures, national costumes, or other elements. Cambodians often claim ownership of Angkor Wat, an 800-year-old temple, as a basis for rights infringement, copying everything from arts and culture to national costumes and cuisine from Thailand, even though these aspects have been developed by Thais after 1867. And always accusing Thais of constantly stealing Cambodian culture and copying their creations, even though Thai arts and clothing have been created and shared before. Later, Cambodia produces works that are similar or alike. That is imitation and copyright infringement, but they often don't admit it.

Cambodians wearing Thai clothes have no credit for Thailand. We never complained but said that it is the national costume of Cambodia. Then saying that Thailand stole Cambodian clothes made Thai people really sad and lost their feelings.😢😢

Cambodia was a colony of Siam for nearly 500 years. Many Cambodian kings came to study the Siamese language and embrace Siamese culture, traditions, and dress. Lived in the palace in Siam since childhood. When the time came, the King of Siam then performed a ceremony to appoint him as king under the colony of Siam to rule Cambodia Therefore, in the Cambodian court they dressed and spoke in the Siamese style and adopted the arts, culture, and traditions of Siam. And of course Cambodia is not original.

The craziest thing is they post Thai dress on social media saying it's Cambodian dress, wear it on international beauty pageant stages or make new TV series to mislead their own people and other countries. Their actual traditional dress is also very beautiful but they just want to leave it. 😥

Thai costumes have a history and evidence of their origins in all 8 styles and are unique to all 4 regions of Thailand.

What you see is just a tip of iceberg. Folk tales, works of art, music etc. Cambodia copy from Thailand so easily cause in Cambodia has no copyright law and intellectual property. Yet they use ancient map 900 years that their territory cover all over SEA claiming everything in Thailand but ignore the truth that they were colonized by Thailand for 400 years. Cambodian royal household absorbed Thai culture ever since. Today,new gen of Cambodian ppl never knew this truth. Why? It’s Hun Sen, PM of Cambodia and his member party tried very hard to brainwash their ppl to believe in new identity by accusing Thailand steal glorious culture from them. Cambodia want fame and spotlight to be the top of this region, that’s the point. So shameful.

You should have a look at the flight attendant’s uniforms and airplane’s colour too ( we used this colour and style when starting the airline). They have changed to look like Thais a few years ago. Thailand was called that the land of smile for long time and they called themselves on the tourists’s advertisement “Cambodia the land of the smile “.

Cambodia received its culture from Thailand because Cambodia was a colony of Thailand for more than 400 years. Angkor Wat also belongs to Thailand because it has the word Siam carved into it, the Khmer ruler.

It was still copied and Thailand was accused of stealing it even though Cambodia produced it later. We Thai people are very disappointed. The Queen and King of Thailand also saved Cambodia from a genocidal war in which Cambodians killed each other. both providing refuge and food But Cambodia never feels gratitude😢
