ISAC Special Exhibition Lecture
Revisiting Roman Sculpture at the OI: Ptolemais and Beyond
Kiersten Neumann, Interim Chief Curator, ISAC Museum; and Roko Rumora, PhD candidate, Department of Art History, University of Chicago, join us for a lecture that explores the newest ISAC Museum special exhibition, "Making Sense of Marbles: Roman Sculpture at the OI." On view as a group for the first time, the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures’s collection of Roman sculpture illustrates how we can makes sense of marbles with divergent histories and the fundamental importance of archaeological context in telling an object’s story.
The special exhibition, co-curated by Kiersten and Roko, will be on view from September 15, 2022 to March 12, 2023.

While excavating for a pool at my house in London the contractor came up with what looked like Roman statues. He immediately went into trashing them because any time some of these relics were found all construction licenses were voided, usually permanently. Just shows how sometimes "conservation laws" might end up destroying the artefacts they're supposed to protect.

@@notanemoprog more importantly, the 'trashing" usually means "transfered to some basement, quickly got cleaned and then sold to the highest bidder". Also shows how the whole notion "antiquities are safe in England as opposed among the vandals in the Middle East" is a lie and a racist lie at that.
