I had the privilege to stand next to a HL230 engine out of the chassis, without mufflers, when they test ran it. The noise was deafening, indescribable. @@nunyabusiness3957 is2 doesn't stand a chance, the only reasons of why an is2 could destroy a tiger 2 was due to the spalling caused by the poor materials used by the end of the war. They needed to do a better version of is2 because even a tiger or a panther could destroy them frontally, even so the 88 l71 is enough to take down is2. Now if we talk about is3 that is one way to dispose tiger 2, but in the end almost 80% of those tanks were destroyed by nothing more than themselves due to the enourmous problems the tank had in the engine, transmission and fuel.

Was at Overloon back in 1963 or 64, can't exactly remember. I did remember the museum. It was much different then today. Basically you walked along paths through the Forrest until you reached a clearing and there would be a tank, no barriers or other obstructions. You could walk right up to the tank, touch it and everything including their Panther. Believe I still have some pictures from back then.

Not really. Post-war tank designs from both the East and West were closer to the Sherman, Cromwell and T-34 than they were to the German cats. From the Sherman the M26 and later the M48 were designed, the Cromwell was the forerunner of the Centurion and the T-34 was the Godfather of the T54/55 series of tanks. West Germany's own Leopard I does not resemble the Tiger or King Tiger in any way either.

Most of the damage on the (frontal) glacis comes from GIs practicing with Bazookas on the already abandoned tank. There is a video somewhere on KZfaq where you actually see them doing so. @@Toxofox Most of the hits on the front armor are not from bazookas. Bazookas have a hollow charge. I don't want to get in trouble with the law but we found lots of Panzerfaust in the hürtgen forest when I was young and did some experiments. If you don't hit the armor at the right angle it will do nothing. A bag of sand will also stop a hollow charge.

@@jerryjustice8803 Porsche actually lost the design bid for the Tiger because his version was so awful (even by heavy tank standards) that the Nazis rejected it. The hulls he had already built were repurposed into a tank destroyer (that was just as bad).

Judging by its design and size, it looks very modern. I imagine if you put a more powerful engine, a bigger gun in it and a few high-tech bits and bobs,, it would not be out of place on today's battle field.

The Panther is actually even larger, just not that heavily armored as the tiger. The Tiger's armor thickness is almost like a battleship's.

there are no german tanks with a "rounded front" and if you're talking about the Krupp prototype production model then that as stated comes before the Henschel production turret which is flat.
@manupainkiller
@manupainkiller 3 жыл бұрын
@@Insomniac3d He meant Tiger 1, dude... Yes, Tiger 1 is not "rounded" per say, he meant it metaphorical ; as the Tiger 1 has a bigger, bulkier front, compared to the Tiger 2. He even said "older sister". Tiger 2 has sloped frontal armor, that's why he says "flat-chest".

A restored Sherman and Royal Tiger are parked next to each other at a festival. Sherman: You know, all these young kids are going around saying that you could kick my ass. Tiger: Idiots, all of them. The war ended eighty years ago. Why would we go back to fighting? Sherman: But do you sometimes wonder? Who would win if we fought again? Tiger: My friend, we are survivors. Let the children make their stories about who would win. We have no need to fight, because know the truth: we both won by surviving that terrible war. Our prize is that we may spend our days in peace, teaching the younger generations about our bloody histories in hope that it will never be repeated. Sherman: You're right...we should leave the fighting for the new machines.

"Königstiger" is an informal nickname. The official designation of the tank was Pzkfw VI ausf B "Tiger II". It was undoubtedly a beast, but unfortunately for the Wehrmacht it was also too much sophisticated, too heavy for most of contemporary bridges, and far too costly to produce. Its fuel consumption was huge, while the Third Reich had no more petrol reserves ! Less than 500 Tiger II were built, compared to 55000 Sherman or 75000 T-34... Moreover, allied heavy tanks equal or superior to the Tiger II, like the soviet JS-3, US M26 Pershing or british Centurion were ready to enter service in 1945-46.

You could have 7 late Pz4 Ausf.H, 4.5 Panther Ausf.G or 3 Tiger Ausf.E for the price of 1 Tiger 2. Definitely the most fancy looking and the most useless tank of WW2. Not that it would save Germany, they could never win the war.
