Yes, Day6 writes their own music. They do have collaborators (other producers) who work with them for arrangements and tracks. And funny, you mentioned K-pop being a factory; Day6 is basically their own song factory. In 2017, they released 2 songs per month for a whole year. They are quite prolific songwriters. 😊 thanks for appreciating their music. 😊 Also, the setlist is not in chronological order, but they put it together like they would for their actual concert. So, any insights on the development of their music may be a bit misplaced. However, I would agree that their music kind of becomes more...sophisticated (can't find the right word right now) as time goes by. For songs with a different pace, check out these b-sides: Hurt Road, Goodbye Winter, I Would, Didn't Know (from the latest album). Also Young K's solo, Nothing But. 😊

Young K basically writes the majority of their music if not all He is in top 3 idol producers in terms of credits, as of now he has produced 175 songs!! Which is insane haha, he writes for different groups as well

To give an idea: lost a member right after debut, veey little promotion, when it was getting better 2 members on hiatus for mental health in 2020, then another member left in 2021 and military break until Nov last year. It has been a roller coster. Hey John! I’m glad to see you enjoying their sound! Day6 brings back a lot of precious memories for me and one of their standout points (besides their voice) is their lyrics which are mostly written by the members. I’m especially in awe of Young K who wrote so many of my favorite songs of theirs even while attending business university :) I’d like to recommend songs that aren’t mentioned as much and weren’t in the killing voice: beautiful feeling, colors, first time and better better (which has a live performance video on their youtube page and it is awesome!) They’ve also done tipsy acoustic lives singing their songs in the middle of restaurants and they’re pretty entertaining.

I love Day6 and am so happy they are getting so much well deserved attention now. But I have to say, even their bright songs make me emotional! 😅❤

i'm so happy that you enjoyed it! to answer some of your questions that i can remember - myday is the name of day6 fans. as far as i know, they write all their music but they do work with a producer for them (they usually work with the same producer every time). all of them do songwriting. youngk is their main lyricist and also writes songs for other artists (like you saw with hi-key!). except for sungjin (if i remember correctly), they all have some solo work that show a slightly different colour than day6 songs but they still like using live instruments for them. just as they always forget their lyrics, i always forget their song titles (lol) so off the top of my head i can only recommend two songs: afraid and i need somebody which are songs i really like by day6. soundwise these songs are not tremendously different because they still have their style, but it is less happy i guess? added these right before posting my comment: let it be summer (youngk solo), 이것밖에는 없다 (youngk solo), 문득 (dowoon with songheejin)!

Their bassist - Young K is the main lyricist of the group, he wrote almost all their songs. He also a solo artist and radio DJ. A lot of popular K-pop Idols/artists are Young K fans! I`d advise you to check his cover-project - "YOUNG ONE", there`s a lot of English songs (btw he is fluent in it). My fav: "Love Me Less" (Max, Quinn Xcii cover), "What Am I" (Why Don't We cover), "Last Call" (Hudson Thames cover), "Like A Star" (Corinne Bailey Rae cover), "What A Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong cover)
