The men in the industry can get away with setting up a literal human trafficking ring and the women can’t even post a picture of fried rice 😭 I get that people say they’re rich or whatever so it doesn’t matter but if wealthy women are held to this kind of standard can you even imagine what it’s like for average working class women?

literal insanity. They get gang-r8ped at work (so i’ve heard, and even have korean friends who left the country to work in China), and have to keep quiet because men talk. If a woman pursues legally, the men of her company will tell top people at neighboring companies that “she’s a talker” which spells trouble. She’ll ultimately be jobless is what I’m saying. Because they won’t hire a woman who wants to stand up for herself and expose them. So sadly, many (although not all) of the men are in on this together. It’s a cultural issue to be sure… what I find interesting is that on the flip side, model culture in Asia (and concommitantly, sex culture) mirrors these same atrocities as sexual fantasies; i.e. being tied up (BDSM), kidnapped, r*ped at work. It’s all there, and its actually popular culture with MILLIONS of views. And nobody is forcing these women btw. Although its sad that it does happen to women who aren’t willing, there are many women (really speaking about Japan and Taiwan here with their booming adult entertaiment industry) who are willing to be portrayed in this way, and quite frankly, they are enjoying the hell out of themselves and making money doing it. Food for thought. Regardless…. burning sun is sickening and infuriating, and is not justifiable by any means whatsoever. Let that be clear. The south Korean justice system definiely needs a tune-up, but obviously so does S.K. society in general. And lets give korea a break for a second here- because this is a GLOBAL ISSUE. Korea is taking all of the heat of late, but this is literally happening everywhere. It happens at the Superbowl, and at Disneyland in America every single day. Trafficking. Completely out of congtrol and just downright unbelievable that that shit is going on beneath the sparkling surface of “happiest place in the world” (disney). It is not.

The celebrity provides a service its not like these people support them for nothing. I have never witnessed such atrocious comments and abusive behavior as I have with asian male actors. I am SO glad you visually highlighted how terribly they treated Go Hara and Sulli. Those girls were suffering even on live television (in Go Hara's case). They needed protection, not bullying. I wish they were alive today to see how far we've come since then. Go Hara especially, is a champion. An angel in the fight for the injustice of what was being done to the victims of Burning Sun. And my heart breaks every time I think of what was done to her and how she was treated. She was so brave even through her pain. Her efforts were not in vain and I hope she sees that wherever she is. Thank you for making such a well documented series on this. We should never forget this incident.

I totally agree with you. Unfortunately, Sulli also suffered on live TV when some self-important jerk in the audience says she (and her other f(x) members) should lose weight. Stan culture in itself is unhinged which is why I wished we stopped using the word stan because it’s a combination of stalker and fan. If you're a celebrity and you commit a crime I hate to say this but you'd still have fans. Like Dahmer, he wasn't even a celebrity but some people defended him for the sake of “he's hot” when he murdered and ate people. So it’s not surprising when you realize deranged fans are willing to go too far. But it is disappointing. Because you don't have to agree with these people to not support crimes, you just have to be human.

Victim blaming, abuser enabling, and a sad sad waste of life hiding behind their keyboards and make this level of bullying their personality- or lack of. So involved in other peoples lives when they should really be focusing on their own. Both gangs and cults have purpose and hierarchy. The main difference is their purpose comes with code and hierarchy is clear - a cult revolves around a specific ideology or charismatic leader that exerts strong influence over its members. The best part about this is that the toxic fan base is nothing more than a cult and they are die hard worshippers who will defend these celebrities and their actions while being in denial of brainwash. And just like dogs they can be trained to bite when their master tells them - nothing more than a group of b****.

You do realize that most of the people who supported (and are still supporting) these people (male idols), giving them fame, wealth and power, are women right? These are the people who are also harassing victims, reporters and anyone else who are trying to seek justice. These are also the people who are harassing female idols for dating their bias (their favourite idol). But of course, let's blame the men only. Also - it seems like taking personal responsibility and being responsible for your safety isn't something that parents instill into their children these days. This goes for both men and women. Clubs are not safe places, if you do not go with a group of trusted friends where one person does not drink (designated driver), you should not go to clubs. If someone rich and famous invites you to drink with them, a nobody, you should think about why they are inviting you and what they want from you. Similarly, if you do not want the risk of having your nudes circulated online (be it via hacks, revenge posting, etc.), DON'T TAKE THEM. It's not the fault of the victims that they are SAed / robbed / etc., it is ALWAYS a crime to SA / rob / etc., let's be clear on that - but you cannot expect the world to always be safe and for the law to always protect you. You are your own first responder, and ideally, you should reduce the unnecessary risks you put yourself into. If you choose to take those risks however, you should be cognizant that you WILL be impacted EVEN IF you eventually do get justice.

@@corninandout offenders like him 18 months of jail time wasn't enough... they've probably used some money to lower their sentence. their police are corrupt then their knetz are whole delusional. What can we expect they can even condemn a woman who didn't do anything even to the smallest details they keep digging in order to crucify her was really insane. the bullying is to the highest degree. They're gonna cancel you just because you are not pleasing to their eyes it is so unhinged, what's more it's being adopted by other countries because of kpop influence. Fans now are getting out of hand that they made it seem like they're the one who gave birth to these celebrities and they aren't allowed to deviate from what they imagine them to be.

I actually broke down in tears when both Goo Hara's and Sulli's passing were on the news. It's not like I was a big fan but I was aware of their music since a very young age, and the circumstances leading to their deaths was overwhelmingly devastating. It was like watching a train wreck in slow motion and being unable to do anything to stop it. Hara actually had a prior reported attempt earlier the year she passed but was found, and she went right back to promoting in Japan afterwards as if nothing had happened. I felt a sense of dread even back then, because nobody is alright right after that. And then the subsequent news dropped a few months later. Never felt so powerless. I often catch myself realizing that those two girls never experienced new world events currently happening, and I'm keenly aware of me getting older and them never getting to experience that. Instead, they'll be forever young in our memories.
