Well, Käärija takes it to 11 haha. For me it's a 7. But it has a great sound, I don't mind if it's in top 3. SOUND - 10 BEAT - 9 SINGING - 3 (what he's doing does the job, but he's not really singing) PERFORMANCE - 10 LYRICS - 2 (my main issue, it's a song about getting drunk. With a "Cha Cha Cha" chorus thrown in for no particular reason :-P)

I'm Finnish, and your analysis of this song is also 10/10, just like the song itself. This is a very Finnish song, not just because of the language, but because it has the essence of our way of life in a nutshell. We are serious, shy, reserved, but when we let loose, we are goofy, and any awkwardness we may have had before, turns into joy of being the weirdos we are, without shame. Even then, we don't know the steps to cha cha cha, but that is not going to stop us from dancing. I know this song uses alcohol as the release agent of our inhibitions, and for many, it is how they relax, but as someone who isn't an alcohol drinker but still loves this song, I think the piña coladas of this song can just as well be any other thing that makes you be a more relaxed version of yourself.

Got to love the fact that you understood us Finns. Some see this performance only as a joke. Ok, it's made with some serious tongue-in-cheek attitude, but it tells so much of us (especially the type of humour we love mixed with seriousness and a pinch of cringe)...

This song has all the ingredients for a winning song. Memorable performance, good live vocal performance, unique eclectic beat, a fun song, native language, addicting after repeat listening, etc. So good. Cha Cha Cha (Chug Chug Chug!)!

This replaced Czechia as my number 1 so far this year. (Yea, I kind of like the more unique entries). But this really has everything - Finnish metal, interesting backup dancers, and the tone change in the middle of the song that keeps it from getting repetitive. I remember being so shocked the first time I heard it, and I hope that this will propel it to success in the contest. I've watched some interviews with Kaarija as well, and he seems like a really cool guy. Not afraid to show vulnerabilities, etc.

Great commentary Stefan! Agreed on your comment at 3.42 - it's an iconic stance which says "I am king" and yet he is such an adorable, understated, self-deprecating and talented guy! Everything about this performance is stunning and it's significantly better than the official video. The dancers are loving every moment and appear to really enjoy acting out a malevolent and scary persona. How can it not win Eurovision 2023?

Great analysis of Finnish people. I would like to add that phrases like cha cha cha or tico tico are traditionally used as a joke here when going on the dance floor very often feeling a bit insecure.

I just LOOOOVE them. Actually the blonde man was part of the production team and stepped in to help out for some reason. Maybe they were down one dancer. He was already my favorite with those teeth of his.

@@sagamaraia I understood that one of the original dancers got sick. He's very talented, considering that he wasn't supposed to dance, but still had an almost perfect performance. Perhaps he forgot to grin in one or two occasions, but you don't see that before you have watched the dancers' performance at least ten times.

The song and the show is all about the contrasts.. first time I saw this performance I immediatly fell in love with the manic dancers. There is a great story in that show and I think the show will develope even bigger. In Finland this song is now everywhere, can't wait to see this on Liverpool! 🇫🇮

Cha Cha Cha sounds like Chug Chug Chug, like how you do when you are doing a drinking contest with the bros during a night out. Makes sense, the song starts serious, but when they get drunk they let loose and go wild like happy drunk people.

It was interesting to see 1) the music video (boxing ring) 2) the UMK winner performance (what you watch) 3) the semi-final and grand final performances The most interesting thing was that they had 50 seconds to get the box on in Liverpool and get ready watching a video of that was interesting. Loreen in the sandwich press had a full 3 minutes to get her sandwich press ready.

The pronunciation is not exactly "Kaarija", more like how they pronounce when singing the Canadian national anthem. "Oh Caanada"->Kää-ri-jä: Spread the "Caaa" sound in the first syllable, switch the last letter of the word into an ä-sound, just like in the first syllable, and You're good to go. In Finnish, every letter is always pronounced in the same way. So now You know how to pronounce the -ä sound.

Thank you for the reaction. 😊 His name is pronounced Käärijä, not Kaarija. Ä is a very different letter to A. 🙂 It's not just an A with dots over it. Käärijä is great. I hope he wins. 🏆🔥🔥🔥

Letter ä is pronounced in the same way than in the English word hat. In the word Käärijä (frapper)it is pronounced long ää.

Well, Käärijä came second in the contest because the juries clearly preferred Sweden's every. Which has kicked up a huge fuss because televiewers actually pay hard earned Euros to vote which the small number of the jury members (7 i think in each country) don't have to. Televoters and the live audience clearly preferred Finland song this year
