K2 DOCUMENTARY 2004 - K2 THE MOUNTAIN OF THE MOUNTAINS

In June 2004 a small team of five climbers - Óscar Cadiach, Manel de la Matta, Jordi Tosas, Jordi Corominas, Valentín Giró - travelled to Pakistan with a challenging dream in their minds: to climb K2, the "Mountain of Mountains" by the Magic Line route. With an altitude of 8.611 meters, K2 it's not only the second highest peak on Earth. It's shape and vertical drop make K2 the only eight-thousander where somebody who is placed at its Base Camp (5.100 m) can reach visually a climber on the summit! Climbers say about K2 that its a mountain that really begins when many other eight-thousanders end. With this film and also through my Blog (www.valentingir...) Valentín Giró shared now this story that has marked his life forever, not only for what he experienced and learned there with his team mates but particularly for what they lost in this mountain. The film of the K2 Magic Line Expedition shows how five passioned climbers worked hard and feel good to make real an ambitious dream. This film is also in Spanish and Catalan version:

K2 and 3 other 8000 ranges mountains are in Shigar Pakistan.I belong to this beautiful valley Shigar.I never went at k2 base camp but one day I will definitely go there (Inshallah).I love these hardworking porters of Shigar who carry more than 35 kg weight from Askoli to K2 base camp more than 200 km to make both end meet.My father used to go k2 when I was 5 years old.I love my father who is my hero and my roll model. I also love K2 ,Gharashabrum 1,grashabum2 ,grashabrum 3 ,4 and broadpeak and all the hardworking porters. ❤️

There is one route never repeated on K2 - so called polish route (done by Kukuczka + Piotrowski in 1986). Also first summit on Magic Line shown in this documentary was done by Poland and Slovak in 1986, the tragic year on K2. RIP de la Matta, RIP Piotrowski, RIP Wróż. Great climbers consumed by the Savage Mountain on its most difficult routes. The holy grail of mounteniring in Karakorum achieved at great cost.

Sometime I just cannot understand why some people are so obsessed with almost impossible dream, torturing themselves, paying so much money, spending so much time, a dream that brings them to the edge of death. May be their adrenaline is too strong to dilute.

Bonington says that and than goes to Catalonia to climb old routes . A waste of time sir ? Know just another pretentious Englishman . Waste of time indeed .
