Bit of an ‘Open All Hours’ moment when the clamp attacked you, did make me laugh. Huge thanks for doing this series 👍😊

Nice going Roger, I started with a k40 years ago and updated it just about the same way you are going to, all the way to a automatic z-axis. I was very satisfied with it after all the updates until the bed became to small :)

Shall be following along with this series. If I can "justify " it with She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed, will seriously consider purchasing similar or bit bigger. Both the wife and I have operated and programmed lasers in the past. It's actually how I met the wife, as she was doing some cutting on Michelangelo's birthday and got the computers infected with his virus. I started on a 700 watt fast flow, then went on to using two 500 watt machines, then was onto a 1000 watt laser. This last one was modified to also have the table swapped over to use a Makita router to do 5 dimensional cutting. In all the years of using them, I only "singed" my hand once! For aligning the mirrors and lens, I used pieces of clear acrylic.

Roger, I flipped the fan on the electronics side. It was pulling dirty air from the laser side and spreading it outside the case..... I also replaced the controller with a DIY-one (K40-GRBLcntrlr) that supports PMW for improved grayscale engraving and the use of LightBurn software.

You mentioned being able to resize the document to the project, its in that same window just below where the page size is, you will see a button that says resize to object, you have to make sure it is in mm however, it doesn't default to that

Wow Roger, I am pretty impressed with how this cheap laser seems to perform, And i do not think, what you had to do was such a huge put off for someone thinking about purchasing one, Having 3D printers, none of those had really worked out of the box, Now if only it had a bigger working area than the 300x200mm, but we all have to start somewhere i suppose. You put things so simply and understandably, with no pointless technical jargon. Straight to the point, like most Aussies lol. Is there any chance you could share links to what you do buy when you perform the upgrades, for those of us thinking of buying one, so that maybe we can buy likewise in our own countries, in case they use different keywords etc in their titles. Many Thanks for the great content.

Looking forward to the upgrades. Mine has the air assist upgrade, but I want to do more with the exhaust air flow. :)

@@rogerwebb9600 I like the fan setup on yours. Mine has the huge one on the back. Seeing yours has given me a couple of ideas. I'll be ordering one of the external versions for sure. Looks like mine has the "extended" air box inside that intrudes on the cutting area. Too bad I don't have any way to cut metal here. LOL ;)

Roger, great video. I noticed a wooden model of a old car underneath the center of your monitor. Is there plans available for that?
