I think you'll really hate the AH-1Z, it's got great top speed, but its really underpowered with 16 HellFires and 2 aim-9Ls. best loadout imo is the 8 hellfires, 2 aim-9Ls, and and unguided rockets (to shoot down sam missiles)

I really like the french Tiger helicopter since you got a 30mm quite decent Mobilität and your Standart unguided rockets online Thing i would maybe an a129international Cockpit (i dont know how the non Premium a129 bc i almost went insane from grinding 50k rp in heli ec with the 8.0heli. Maybe when i got the top Tier Italian heli i got a New fav clone Support heli (it only counts as close combat if you can count the era plates on the Tank)

I will just suggest you one thing when speaking about armor, take into account the range at which a bullet is fired. Even just 4mm of steel will stop 12.7 rounds significantly, to the point where the helicopter's pilot can survive several hits. This also greatly helps with HE explosions.

Don't bother grinding without a premium, and don't support the state of the heli grind by buying one with real money (use GJN coins only, if at all). No top tier heli is worth the literal years of grinding you'd need as a F2P player; if you want them for ground RB, there'll be modern strike jets added for that months or years before you get a single rank 7 heli. If you still want to grind helis, first consider what you're flying. If you have a Kamov, play EC; anything else, Ground Assault. But tbh, if you're flying any light heli (Allouette, etc) without cannons or spam-able rocket pods, you're kinda hurting the team in Assault. If you have cannons/rocket pods, you can do very well in Assault (assists by immobilisation/knocking out guns are equally if not more valuable to the team). If you're an Allouette (or something else with stock ATGMs), go to ground RB; the Allouette's actually pretty good there but you get shit rewards. For helis worth playing without paying, I'd honestly ignore every tree that isn't the US because of the terrible starter helis; there's some great top tiers like the Tiger and Brit Apache, but they especially are not worth the grind through the rest of their awful trees (Brit and German helis are only "good" in RB, but RB has terrible rewards). Ignore Russia entirely unless you have a Ka-50 (the Mi-4 alone ruins the tree, although you *could* grind it in Assault so you can eventually enjoy the Hinds in RB and from there have a slow but bearable grind to rank 7). For the US, never buy a Peten; get the YAH-64 for free and consider putting a discounted talisman on it during a sale (it's at 10.3 and is almost as capable + it's free. The Peten kinda sucks up at 10.7, where enemy SAMs are guaranteed every match). The AH-1G is decent for ground RB and fantastic for Assault, and Hueys are workable in RB. This all sounded pretty negative; it is, but that's just how the heli grind is. I don't support the current state of them but have had a lot of fun in them recently (again, the YAH is awesome). For general gameplay tips in RB, also watch Hunter's videos. He uses some nice spots and knows a lot about the different mechanics of modern aircraft in WT.

Most of the entry-level helis are pretty horrible, but they're still good fun. :-)

I'll take the japanese huey over the ab205 anyday, it's pretty funny when you get enough spawn points to get the backup for free, ab205 is only good if you have jesus level rocket aim and you love hunting cobras (it's just too inconsistent for grinding)

I've considered that - the problem is that I'd run into copyright issues. I go to pretty great lenghts to avoid any possible copyright strikes, and anytime I use still images/music/etc in any of my stuff I get permission directly from the original copyright holder first (even if/when it would fall under fair use).

Bradleys kick my ass when I fly helis hehe, they're quite good.

Sorry I'm a year late but this isn't a bug! Stinger missiles on spaa like the Ozelot, LAV-AD and Ah-64 are immune to flares as they have modern IRCCM (IR counter counter measures) while aircraft fired heatseekers do not.

You can do that with alot of helicopters, getting there without being murdered is the problem.

@@dowmein Yeah, but the 30 mm HEDP on the Apache is a bit trolly - sometimes work wonders, sometimes does nothing and is just two inaccurate. Kamovs with APDS are more suited for flying right above the spawn. Most players just have problems with looking straight up. It works and can be fun for 1 or 2 games but then it is boring and unfair. And you need to be a very skilled pilot to make the proper moves directly above the enemy's and be effective.

Its not you - the Mi-4v is, in my opinion anyway, one of the worst helis in the game.

I havent really flown the helis much in VR, as in order to be effective with the guided weapons you need to switch to the gunner/zoom view and thats ... very ... disorienting (at least for me) in VR. "-\

Nah... Naval is definitelly the worst... it's just not fun... Helicopters are fun I grinded entire russian heli tree without Ka-50 too... just saying

Everyone I've seen crying about cas does nothing to avoid it and blames the game for it. It's easy to hide on most maps.
