Kalarippayattu, the traditional martial arts form of Kerala, is often called the mother of all martial arts. But what do we really know about the origin and progress of it? S.R.D Prasad Gurukkal of Sree Bharath Kalari is a trainer and proponent of Kalarippayatt. He is also the author of an encyclopedia on Kalarippayattu training. Here he tells the history of the martial art form.

Very good to hear that Kari was advised by his Nambiar landlord to disguise as Nambiar. Great example of acceptance across caste barriers in the past. Helped probably to reduce caste issues in modern Kerala . Not saying it has completely disappeared but it seems not relevant in many situations now!

43' kalaries in Unniyarcha period. 18 kalaries Puthooram Veedu Thiyyar Chekavor Vadakara kadathanadu . 7kalaries in Aringoder kolasree period. Other kalaries handled other castes. Chirakkal Sridharan Nair. Tulunadu. Kadathanadu Vyalnadu (Wayanad). Kolasri Nadu. Ernadu. Valluvanad. Malabar area.

തീയർ ഈഴവരും ഒരേ ജാതി അല്ല... രണ്ടും രണ്ടാണ് തീയർക്ക് കളരി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു അവർ ചേകവന്മാർ ആണ് അവർ തന്നെ ആണ് ഉണ്ണിയാർച്ച , ആരോമൽ എല്ലാം. പക്ഷെ ഈഴവർക്ക് കളരി ഇല്ല

രണ്ടും രണ്ടു ആകട്ടെ. കളരി ഇല്ല എന്നു എന്തു പ്രമാണത്തിൽ ആണ് പറയുന്നത്. വളരെ പ്രശസ്തമായ ചീരപ്പൻചിറ കളരി ഈഴവരുടെ ആണ്. കുറെ ആയി കാണുന്നു തീയ്യർ ഈഴവ വിവാദങ്ങൾ അത് എന്തിന് എന്നു മനസിലാകുന്നില്ല..

അല്ല കളരിപ്പയറ്റ് ആര്യന്മാരുടെ കല അല്ലെ ദ്രാവിഡ കലയാണ് അതും താഴന്ന ജാതിക്കാർ, ആദിവാസികൾ പറയൻ പുലയൻ, പുള്ളവൻ ഈഴവർ മുതലായവർ ഇങ്ങനെ ആണ് കളരി പരിണമിച്ചു വന്നത് അല്ലാതെ ആര്യന്മാരുടെ കല അല്ല കളരി മൊത്തതിൽ ദ്രാവിഡ കല തന്നെ ആണ്,ചരിത്രം ജന്മിത കാലത്തും ഇരുണ്ട കാലത്തും അതായത് മറ്റുള്ളവരുടെ അവകാശങ്ങൾ നിഷേധിച്ച കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ അവനവന്റെ ചരിത്രം പോലും എഴുതാൻ കഴിയാത്ത കാലത്തു ചില മേലാണന്മാർ എഴുതി വെച്ചതാണ് ഇന്നത്തെ പല ചരിത്രവും അതാണ് ദ്രാവിഡ കല ആയ കളരിപയറ്റിനെ ആര്യന്മാരോട് കൂട്ടി ചേർക്കാൻ കാരണം സുഹൃത്തേ യുക്തി പരമായി ചിന്തിച്ചാൽ മതി മനസിലാകും, പിന്നെ ഇത് മാത്രം അല്ല boxing, karate, kungfu, muai thai, തുടങ്ങിയ ayadhona കലകൾ eyavaude എല്ലാ ചരിത്രവും നോക്കിയാൽ മനസിലാകും അത് tribes ആദിവാസികൾ അവർ ആണ് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയത് അവരിൽ നിന്നും ആണ് മറ്റു ഉള്ളവരിലേക്ക് കളരി അടക്കം ഉള്ള പല martial ആർട്സും ഉണ്ടായത് അല്ലാതെ അമ്പലവാസികൾ ആയ മേലാളന്മാർ അഥവാ ആര്യന്മാർ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയത് അല്ല ചുമ്മാ യുക്തി പരമായി ചിന്തിച്ചു നോക്ക് കൂടുതൽ അന്വേഷിക്കു 👍

@@sudheeshkmurikottill7392 അല്ല. ചേകവർ എന്നത് ഉയർന്ന തിയ്യർക്ക് കിട്ടിയിരുന്ന പദവി ആണ്. ഉപജാതി സംബ്രദായം വഴി, landlords, വൈദ്യർ, കളരിക്കാർ എന്നീ തിയ്യർക്ക് ഉന്നതർക്ക് അന്ന് സമൂഹത്തിൽ വലിയ വില ആയിരുന്നു. തെയ്യം കെട്ടി ആടിയവൻ ആണോടാ തിയ്യർ 😏 അതൊരു ജാതി തന്നെ ആണ്
