I own the Kershaw Camp 10 and have never used it. Its huge and beautiful but if it was the end of the world, it would be one of the five knives I'd take with me out of my huge collection.

Honestly I’ll still have to pick the kershaw but it’s only because of the lack strength I seen with the bk9 in some of the torture tests on KZfaq
@homeslicesharpening

Yeah, well that's a valid point. I think the BK9 is plenty strong for most realistic tasks, but I have to say, I have put that Kershaw through a TON of abuse and it is bulletproof!

The music is such a wonderful contrast to the energy you're putting into this chop fest. And half way through, before seeing your summary is the BK-9 seemed sharper and easier...

BK9 hands down, not an over kill for light to heavy duty around the camp site. Haven’t sharpen my BK9. OVER a year, getting close of the need. Kershaw does wonders with their knifes, nice. 🙏

Thanks man - yeah I have been really impressed by the Kabar Becker line. Did you see the last episode of this tournament? KaBar Becker BK7 slightly outperformed a knife in CPM 3V to win the Tournament. I was very surprised! Go to my channel and look up "Chopper Bowl" if you want to see it.

You know, the Becker range really offers Bang for buck in my humble opinion....if you are not a knife enthusiast and you are just looking for a hard working camp knife it's pretty hard to go past their range for off the shelf value!

Thanks heaps friend, nice to see you around! My energy does have some bounds - I got sick after making this video and needed to take it easy for a while. The Tui birds just came back. They love the nectar in the Harakeke (Native Flax) and it just started blooming again - we have a little border of flax around our deck. We watch the Tui's fight over it every morning hahaha! Take care!

So Kershaw cut better in your test, but afterwards it got poorer result cutting wire in a detector, so it lost? Weird rules you have mate for your 'chopping' tournament. It's a detector wire slicing tournament, not a chopping one.
@homeslicesharpening
@homeslicesharpening Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I suppose the name is misleading - more of a "edge retention at a chopping task" kind of tournament. They are both very good and utilitarian knife designs and I have enjoyed them both for what they are - go with the one you like best! No judgement here. My passion is sharpening more than any particular brand, so sharpest wins in this tournament. Cheers mate, have a good day.

@@homeslicesharpening I see, fair enough, thanks for the answer. I have the Kershaw and I like it, it's good for chopping indeed. I only wish the handle was less abrasive, it can certainly cause blisters if used for a prolonged time without gloves. Good day to you too!

KaBar wins it! well ofcourse the thickness behind the edge was much thinner, but it kept an edge pretty well. Did you at least roast some potatoes in the fire? Always a yummy idea and kids love it. You must have developed some pretty biceps by now. Thank you for this part of the tournament Gabe.

@@homeslicesharpening You can cover them with foil, in that case you don't have a blackened skin, but if you don't mind the black fingers, you can just lay them in as they are. Always a bonus for me and the kids if we have a little fire.

My BK-9 with a micarta Handle is a beast. I love my Kershaw stuff. But for me in a Survival situation and my life depending on it I'd take it before the Kershaw, My opinion. 🙏✝🇺🇸✝🙏

I think you'd be much better prepared having either of these blades with you (versus no blade, or a swiss army knife, or even a small fixed blade) but I think I'd definitely take the BK9 on a more remote trip (for the reduced pack weight just as much as the steel/edge holding, and because I find it easier to process food with). Thanks heaps for your vote my friend. Take care.

Fair enough - it sure looks like the Kershaw is softer according to the test results. Then again it bears testing because you sure can't tell by looking at them. And I like to test before I make any firm opinions. Cheers bro, thanks for the comment - you were right!

@@homeslicesharpening I love both as well, but could never bring myself to buy the Kershaw based on the steel/price. They sit in that lower cost niche and fill a gap had by most knives. Kershaw is a small machete with curves for days and bk9 is a huge bushcrafter. I think the fiskars brush axe or maybe the camillus predator would be a fairer fight and would highlight blade geometry. Also it would drag in a larger number of viewers with tools at lower price points. I’m biased with my big knives, though. Clearing fences in spring as a kid I learned quick that cheap steel is just that. Love my hatchet and gerber machete for what you were doing. Keep up the good work!

@@supersymun Thanks mate! Yeah, I should incorporate more budget options - it's surprisingly hard to find a variety of budget choppers here in NZ. I have a Machete coming in an episode about 5 weeks out. It's facing off against a tactical katana hahaha!

@@supersymun nope the camillus is junk. Poor quality. I've had 3 and they snap right inside the handle with minimal use.
