So the real # is more like 600,000 time 5 not 2 million times 5. But the source for this idea of 4 fifths of the Jews not leaving Egypt is from Midrash, now if the intent of the author of this teaching was not to be taken literally then the numbers don’t matter. It is nothing but views of some rabbis and it contradicts the Torah and the Tanakh sharply. You don’t need to take my word because many Orthodox Jewish scholars concluded that this is the case. Or T'fillin (Phylacteries)? Slaughtering details, how to keep Shabbat, how to marry, ect? It's like the American constitution, I suppose.
