चलते चलते फ़िल्म से जुड़ा एक दिलचस्प क़िस्सा ,,,, फ़िल्म प्रदर्शन के लिये तैयार थी और उसकी रिलीज़ डेट भी घोषित कर दी गयी थी। फ़िल्म सेंसर बोर्ड के पास उनके सर्टिफ़िकेट के लिये जब प्रस्तुत की गयी तो बोर्ड के सदस्यों ने एक आपत्ति लगा दी। फ़िल्म का शीर्षक गीत ‘कभी आर कभी पार, लागा तीरे नज़र ...‘ जो शमशाद बेग़म जी की आवाज़ में था जगदीप पर फ़िल्माया गया था। जगदीप उस समय किशोरवय के थे। बच्चों के गाने तो महिला गायिकाओं द्वारा गाये जाते थे पर किशोरावस्था वाले जगदीप पर शमशाद बेग़म का गाया गाना सेंसर बोर्ड को ठीक नहीं लगा। बोर्ड के सदस्यों ने गुरुदत्त को सलाह दी कि गीत को किसी महिला कलाकार पर फ़िल्मा लिया जाये तो गीत पास कर दिया जायेगा। रिलीज़ डेट सामने थी। गुरुदत्त ने तत्काल निर्णय लेते हुये वह गीत पुनः कुमकुम पर फ़िल्माया ,,,, हालांकि कुमकुम उन दिनों नई नई थीं ,,,, उन पर फ़िल्मा कर एडिटिंग से उसके टुकड़े पुराने गीत में जोड़ दिये। वे स्वयं एक कुशल नर्तक थे अत: उन्हें कुमकुम को भावभंगिमायें समझाने में कोई दिक़्क़त नहीं हुई। फ़िल्म अपने निश्चित दिन रिलीज़ कर दी गयी। गीत देख कर आसानी से समझा जा सकता है कि गुरुदत्त, श्यामा और जगदीप का हिस्सा और कुमकुम का हिस्सा अलग अलग शूट किये गये हैं। गाने के प्री ल्यूड और इंटर ल्यूड म्यूज़िक में जगदीप रहते हैं और बोल शुरु होने पर कुमकुम पर्दे पर आ जाती हैं।

Yes, the modern generation does know what they're missing. And guess what, they are happy to be rid of this. The rampant misogyny, dowry demands, fear of societal shaming is not something that should be glorified. The "innocent love" that you seem to be so proud of was seen as abhorrent back then, when arranged marriages and the downtrodding of women were the norm. Be glad that we are part of a modern, more civilized, and most importantly, more expressive society, where not everyone is subject to your narrow and outdated standards of relationships. How dense do you have to be to actually admire the culture of half a century ago based on a movie song, which was so detached from their reality, where women were taught to live with and even expect physical and emotional abuse. Doubtless you detest modern love and their expression of love, which seems vulgar to you, but guess what? They are actually better off than ages ago, believe it or not. They are not trapped in loveless relationships and abusive codependencies, they have the option of loving who they want. Seeing people like you denigrade the progress society has made, just because it does not conform with your regressive and ill-informed view revolts me to my core. I sincerely hope you learn how far we have come along and how better we are now as a community.
