Golden Hour is probably the most critically acclaimed records of 2018 along with Janelle Monae's Dirty Computer and appeared in virtually every publication's year-end's best list. It's got quite a hype from mainstream music critics. But yeah the radio stations did her (and the rest of female country artists) dirty.

@@anthonyfregala, because she released a song called "Follow Your Arrow" a few years ago. The lyrics go "Make lots of noise, kiss lots of boys, or kiss lots of girls if that's something you're into. When the straight and narrow gets a little too straight roll up a joint, and follow your arrow wherever it points." Country radio is ran by conservatives that do not like that she stands up for LBGTQ rights or talks about cannabis. They basically blacklisted her. Here in the Bible Belt where I live (two hours from Nashville) I very rarely hear her played on the radio. But I keep her on in my car!

As a big fan, I’m surprisingly okay with people going “WHO?” on her. Kacey has sadly been blacklisted by Country radio ever since she released her progressive song “Follow Your Arrow” years ago, which of course did not sit well with the genre’s mostly conservative folks. Not officially, but almost no Country radio would ever give her a chance. So I get every single comment saying who is she because she sadly has very little exposure. BUT. If you’re saying who and then following it by having never listened to her, and then saying someone else deserved it more, then you are just hating that she won. Plain and simple. Not even willing to give the album a chance but already committing to think somebody else is robbed is just plain hatred. Give Golden Hour a chance. It didn’t get the highest Metacritic score out of everything nominated for nothing.
@Asergiobv
@Asergiobv 5 жыл бұрын
Wow I had no idea she was blacklisted. I have to admit when she was singing I fast forward it but then she was singing with dolly and I rewind it back to listen to her. I finally listen to her album and yes she completely deserved every award. I hope people could be more open minded about other singers and realize that there’s so much good music out there. Just my opinion.

Lady Gaga realized she doesn't have the great voice .. she copped with disco and Gay atmosphere and it worked ... now we all know Gaga doesn't really have a strong singing voice but still yells with her gay Monsters worshipping her. Makes sense. The gateway to Grammys is always through Gay people. Kacey supported gays and was crucified .. and just like that a regular country album is album of the year …. SMH …. HAHAHAHAHAHA!

I would argue that this is REAL country. Not the stuff on the radio about trucks and budlight. Kacey is what country would be today if Nashville hadn't sold their soul 20 years ago. Check out her husband Ruston Kelly, he is excellent as well! Underground country / red dirt is alive and well.

It’s very Country in spirit. Country isn’t necessarily a sound but a weight that it carries. Songs that tell stories, songs that are true, relatable and in a way, rebellious in nature that I would argue to say that they reflect themes of country music that we haven’t seen in many decades. It’s why she is held in such high regard with people like Dolly Parton, Willy Nelson. She is indeed country, regardless is it sounds poppy. Pop itself has changed over the last 50 years.

Apparently there are a lot of people who are throwing hate towards Kacey for winning Album Of The Year. These people have either not listened to Kacey at all, or are die hard supporters of other artists. I highly recommend these people to go listen to Kacey’s album and then talk. Nevertheless, Golden Hour was an outstanding album and definitely deserved this award. The music, the lyrics, the theme, the performances, the visuals and everything was beautiful. Each and every song was unique in its own way and incredible itself. Well deserved album. Hope to see Kacey making more brilliant music in the future and win Album Of The Year again.

I haven't had the opportunity to listen to her songs yet but I really like how her fans, when defending her aren't tearing others down but are instead encouraging haters to listen to her music and support her. I like that sort of attitude and I will definitely check out her stuff. Congrats to Kacey and to her fans. P.S. FFS Grammys, this is your biggest award, at least have the respect to let her finish talking before you go on and play her off. kbrownevan ok you have a point the Grammys don’t always get it right but I mean they gave best rap performance to both Kendrick and Anderson Pakk this year so art can still count along with commercial success. On the other hand the best rap album category was slim pickings to begin with I mean the only competition she had was Pusha T and maybe Travis Scott so I mean can take the Cardi win and her album wasn’t that bad it was a pretty strong debut

The Grammys looks at charts and airplay when they decide who to nominate. Artistry comes into play, and is a huge deciding factor, but so does commercial success. Once the nominations are in the recording academy members vote on said nominations. Look at Lemonade and 25, both were huge albums critically and commercially. Lemonade was more “artistic” and my personal choice to win, but Adele’s was more commercially successful which gave her a helping hand. For album of the year they look at everything.

The funny thing being that the album is BARELY Country, and Kacey Musgraves isn't all that "Red State" friendly, since she's weed smokin, LGBTQ supporting, etc etc. She won this not because of a groundswell of country music loving music conservatism, but DESPITE that, since she's pretty much the opposite of those people.
