TOMMIE B !!! I love all the VW life guys, but Tommie Bs style is definitely more my style. I’ve watched all the VWL KZfaq vids, and always notice when his cars are lurking in the background. We definitely need more of Tommy B’s garage. Please do a video of the race you’re prepping for. I also had that “top spec” hood badge on my 53 ragtop’ cause it’s my initials also. Pretty sure Everett would approve. I’ve told my aunts and my uncles, and they just don’t get it.

the front mounting bracket for the Kafer bar is bolted to the frame horn through the small end of the bracket that's why just the one bolt hole and no trimming for your brake tee would be required. Being that they neglect to provide a simple instruction sheet with this kit it can be said there is no wrong or right way to install it , I just found after trying all possible configurations that this was what made the most sense and fit with no stress on the other components .

I agree - I found others that swapped sides with those brackets and were able to use the single bolt. My 2 bolts version with a notch around that Brake T was certainly a little more work but in the end I am ok with that and I feel it actual does a little better job of staying put .. HOWEVER!! in the end I did a berg traction bar to hold the motor up and it DID way more to stop shutter than everything else combined . but that is just my experience at this point.. That what I call "Top Shelf Bugs" love the detailing and how clean they are, I share some of the same DNA. Back in late 60s my high school car was a 1967 GTX. I would wash and wax it every day in the summer. (Live in Indiana parked it in the winter took the school bus).. During the summer months, my parents started requiring me to paid thier monthly water bill..

It’s a setrab cooler - with the brackets and clamps it got a little pricey I was closing In in $400 with that setup

Sweet 59 mine is off-road only setup at moment but if I choose I could street license it,but why ...I ride a Harley chopper and have a Chevy 4x4 Silverado for work ,errands and as a tow vehicle ,or as driver when bad weather...

Were there any problems bolting the trans back onto the trans mount with the Kafer mount behind the trans mount? That would push the trans mount out a bit.

No the mount is slotted and allows for a little back in forth movement . My mid mount is weld in so the trans didn’t move at all ..

Do you run the koni adjustables in the front? Wondering if I should go that route or just basic oil shocks with my 4" narrowed beam

Well I do have oil filled up front - I ordered Koni’s for upfront but didn’t install them yet . When I snapped an axle on the red car it caused me to focus on pulling motor/trans and fixing that so I need to get back to the other stuff I need to work on. Oil filled are great shocks for regular driving . Depending on how in-depth on going down the track you go shocks , clutch management ,rpms, tire size and such will always be items to pay attention too. If you make a choice let us know and let us know if you have feed back - we love hearing from everyone and learning also 😎😎😎😎

I have taken it out and made some hard launches - so far it has felt awesome no rear end hop with DOT slicks.. however my clutch disc just went to crap. So motor is back out and I’m trying to figure that part all out ..

You said triple Springs on those CB heads so this car doesn't see the street it's just a race car or does it get some Street time as well

Zas- I haven't been over here to answer any questions lately, My bad.. Yes the prior setup did see street time with triple springs (the 3rd one is more for control than spring pressure) But I made some changes swapped out the cam and lowered the compression on it with a new set of Street Eliminator heads that I ported on myself. At 11:12; I understand the need to do it but what about its strength and why didn't the kits manufacture know that needed to be done (thicken it to compensate)? ;-)

Well the kit was designed for the brackets that I cut to be on the opposite sides - but I didn’t like that overall - I think the way I went caused a little more work but I like it much better this way. Plus I added a bolt when it came with only one as an option. One allows the brackets to sorta move to where you need it - two gives no room for movement- again more work but I do dig it - way more this way🤙🏼🤙🏼

Hey man Kevin here from Australia. First your red 66 is amazing. Q. The kafer bar system is there any modification that needs to be done to the body. Is it just bolt straight on. Q. Have you got a link for the kafer bar. Q. Id love to see a video on your oil system it looks awesome . Anyhoo stay safe man. ✌ Peace

Yes pretty bolt in when it comes to the body and stuff . Did take a little extra work than just plug and play but wasn’t too hard

he broke and stock axel making a test hit before he could get it on the track, the plan is to have it out in two months for it's first run :)

@@VWLifeVW I’ve done the same in my 67 racing at Lucas oil speedway in Indianapolis. Stock axels don’t hold up to lots of hp. Please post some results when Tommie goes racing!

@@scotwheeler5789 Working towards making the Texas BugIn (show,swap, and race) hope to see what she'll do. Got the trans back in with new axles and changing intake manifolds so doing some port matching right now. but should be ready for March ..

G'day, Kevin here from Australia. This must be the 20th time I'm viewing this it's a good video. Anyhoo I've got a couple of questions. Q. The shocks you installed what setting did you end up using. Q. Your racing your car did you have recovery hooks/rings installed. Q. How are you finding the stiffy kafer kit I'm about to install one on my 63. Bug. ✌🏻 Peace

I went in the middle.. but now after running at the track I have them on the stiffest setting. I also put the rear travel snubbers back in to play .. as the rear Squatted way to much with the way I had it .. It ended up breaking an axle prior to the first race.. then second race I destroyed first gear.. third race went much better.. got 5 good runs in .. I guess if you throw enough MONEY at it .. anything is possible :)

Running 110 octane right now.. so far haven't had any issues.. Next on the list is probably a cam change.. something with a higher power band. :)

An older setup of Cb performance their quick tune ECU . Check out Mario at the dub shop they do go work on FI for air cooled

I have a 72 beetle and when I start it up there’s a really bad rattle and very loud sound when you push in the clutch then when off the clutch it quiets down . Dose anyone have a suggestion of what it could be ?

What is the hp on that fuel injection engine thanks and what is the price of the kafer bar here in south Africa a person must manufacture your own brackets you are privileged to get the spare parts in America

Wouldn’t put a big number on the HP for the fuel injection car . But it’s super smooth running. The kafer I think ran me around $300 delivered . From coolrydes customs

I ran 2 aluminum fuel lines down the Pan on the outside and made some bracket for where those lines turned to soft lines and bulkhead fittings . I think we will make a more in depth video of it and how it is setup.. Thanks for watching 😎

It’s the CB QuickTune ECU . A little old but I had it on the shelf for years and just decided to go with it .. one day I’ll be smarter than it is and then I’ll add a turbo to it 😎 ..

Tommie, you have some really sanitary cars! Beautiful stuff! I'm curious how the kafer bar affects ride and handling. What is it supposed to do? Does it prevent tucking under on the rear when cornering?

It prevents flexing of the frame horns - some cal them dog leg - frog legs ? But those flex and it locks them down to stop the flex ..
