Yoju, Honju and Daikaiju are basic “classes” that are given to the Kaijus depending on their fortitudes, the scale 1-10. And the numbered kaijus are Kaijus that takes a long time to the defense force to defeat, kafka for exemple, he appeared on the hospital and they couldn’t get him after 3 months. So because of this they give him a codename,Kaiju No°8 so they could identify him. Same as Kaiju No° 9, they know about him, but it’s taking long to defeat him, so they gave him a codename for better identification. Basically the numbered Kaijus are the special special type that is completely different from the others, but not specifically a humanoid type.

A daikaiju is a kaiju that its fortitude is from 6.0 or so meaning that it’s strong and the numbering is according to when they were discovered , so if kaiju no 9 was first seen he would have been called kaiju no.8

Mina was just being formal with her position as captain in mind. You can see she hesitated and just followed the process. Also just remember, to not sleep on kaiju no 9, ull know later on.

It says a lot about how powerful Kafka is, that while hoshina was trying to kill him he was just avoiding lethal hits and thinking about how to get away lol. If he'd wanted to he could have ended that fight at any time.

First thing first.......Mina has always cared for Kafka. She however feels like Kafka has lied to her because he kept on failing and couldn't keep his promise. She didn't want to use her authority to let him join. While Hoshina could see that Kafka's knowledge might actually give them a advantage against Kaiju. But he wasn't sure and so he gave him the cadet rank as a form of trial run and add the fact that he was suspicious. But then in battle Kafka did just what Hosina had hoped. He got vital intel on the Kaiju that helped a lot. If Kafka didn't find that info, people would have died for sure and stopping 9 would have been much harder. Then we see him become a officer and we get a smile from Mina followed by a return to formality with the 50 pushups. It's about to get better!

They failed to take down Kafka on the same night he was first spotted and gave him a designation as a result. This had more to do with being unable to find him than his combat abilities. They are also numbered in order, so there was already a kaiju no. 1, kaiju no. 2, no. 3, etc. The numbered kaiju aren't necessarily humanoid either. Reno said he only knew of one other humanoid kaiju, implying nobody had ever seen a humanoid one before Kafka turned into one. If the new one at the end of the episode gets a number it will be no. 10.

Fortitude and class are independent of the numbering. Only kaiju with a fortitude over 8 get a number, and the number designation is order of discovery. If Kaiju #9 was found before Kafka, he would've been Kaiju #8. Mina believes in Kafka, she wants him to succeed, but at the exam, Mina was ready to let him go. She was disappointed, but going to say no. Kafka is there because Hoshino saw something in him. Not just the humor or suspicion.

Based of when they were discovered that's how they get their numbers, and they need to have done something pretty unusual to get a number in the first place, numbered Kaiju are a big big deal, it's logical there were 7 before Kafka. 😌 Also, the remaining episodes are about to be crazy, prepare yourselfs for insanity! 😵‍💫🔥

For some supplementary info, kaiju are broken into three main classes. Yoju, Honju, and Daikaiju. The Fortitude Level is just one factor in classifying kaiju. Yoju are typically the smallest kaiju, ranging anywhere from the size of a very small animal to the size of a car. They usually follow the commands of a Honju and cannot reproduce (usually). Their Fortitude Level can be anywhere up to 6.0, but it can go higher if they are following the commands of a particularly strong Honju. Honju are the next category, and they can be anywhere from larger than a vehicle to larger than a building. Honju can reproduce and/or control Yoju. This is why Honju is translated as "Origin Beast," while Yoju is translated as "Other Beast". Honju usually have a base Fortitude Level of 6.0. This is the class where unique powers and characteristics come into play. Special weapons are made from this class. Lastly, is the Daikaiju class. The most dangerous class, and the one that Kafka belongs to. Daikaiju _used_ to be gigantic. Literally, Godzilla-sized. However, since Kafka appeared, they've been coming in humanoid forms. This doesn't change their Fortitude Level, which starts at 8.0. When a kaiju is measured at that level, they automatically get a designation, "Identified Numbered Kaiju". This is why Kafka is "Kaiju № _8."_ He is the eighth Daikaiju, a kaiju with a Fortitude of at least 8.0, in the history of Japan. Daikaiju can control Honju, which can then control their own Yoju. Saying Mina didn't believe in Kafka is a huge disrespect. When Vice-Captain Hoshina recommended him and accepted him as a cadet he actually cut off Mina before she could say anything. Episode 5, time stamp 6:35, after the captains analyze Kafka, MIna was about to say something. Plus she smiled (we didn't get to see it but Hoshina did) during the Officer Induction Ceremony.
