Lol, At least genichiro is a boss that makes sure ,u learned deflect before advancing.

Fr. Idk what the true order is supposed to be, but I fought lady butterfly early af and that's where I was forced to learn to deflect/block as my primary defense and dodge only what cannot be deflected/blocked. The game became much more enjoyable after that. The only other boss I died to +10 times after that was true monk and that's only cause I didn't cheese it, use an assassination or firecrackers.

I reached genichiro with that mindset and I fought him for 2 months with the same mindset thinking I was just being too slow

Gyoubu Oniwa was the first Main Boss I encountered in my playthrough, idk about other people's experiences but he was the one who really made me learn how to parry/counter attacks in this Game after several attempts fighting him. Lady Butterfly I did afterwards and she's arguably pretty easy to cheese with that whole "Dodge & Hit" Strategy for the most part (granted it still took me multiple attempts). The Bull, while being more of a mini-boss is arguably the worst boss in the game imho, pretty much forced me to run around the entire arena only getting one or two hits in on occasion due to how ridiculously wild/chaotic his attacks were. By the time I got to Genichiro though, after exploring almost all of the surrounding areas to see what there was and what I could find (fighting almost all of the available mini-bosses up to that point) that is, I pretty much got the hang of how the combat worked and (while still taking several attempts due to needing to get the timing right) was able to beat him pretty handedly. Heck he didn't even get the chance to use his Lightning Attack properly in his final phase when I beat him as I pretty much just whaled on him then and there.

Yeah honestly at genichiro I thought he will learn it at least but nah, first time seeing someone playing worse than me. Was screaming at the TV why tf u not BLOCKING Mate???

on my fist playthrough, i beat genichiro without deflection after about 25 attempts. It was absolute hell. i managed to get the hang of it soon after i beat him lmao. i actually have a vieo of it uploaded on my channel, it's the first of two genichiro uploads.

BonafideTrolldier If you use high monk against one of Isshin/Genichiro’s thrusts you can evade it. I did it by accident once.

To be fair it's(supposed to be) the mid boss. I think that's where most people learn the actual Sekiro mechanic the hard way. Unless you're like me who killed bosses needed for the ending (minus the last one) including all the optional mini bosses that stood in my way BEFORE fighting Genichiro the first time on top of Ashina Castle....

Genichiro forces you to. You could get by with dodging up until that point.

Yeah I really dont understand why the game doesnt teach you how to block. It only teaches you how to deflect in the beginning. I have seen so many people not realize you can properly block until much later because of that.

@@MrCaw77 that's because you really aren't supposed to block. In NG+ you take damage for every block.

@@jakeallen476 only if you hand over the charm. Blocking is viable otherwise. Just better to deflect as it will damage their posture as well.

@@BurningDogFace It's better to deflect because you damage their posture and can get a counter off of it. Plus you cannot always dodge stuff

@@BurningDogFace He was also trying to play this game like it was Dark Souls/Bloodborne, two of From Softs earlier titles that rewarded skillful dodging via I-Frames and allow to bring the pain on bosses. From Soft wanted to create a game with that same level of brutal combat/difficulty, but unconditional players to believe they can get through every encounter via that same method, instead of bracing themselves for potential pain via untimely blocks. Kaife was trying to play this game like it was Dark Souls, as such he was punished heavily, especially against Genechio which feels like From Soft's last-ditch attempt to force players to stop thinking this is another Dark Souls title, and instead play it as it's own unique thing.

@@justanobody8031 we don't mean to be mean about not deflecting, you can even dodge if you want to, it's just that for most everybody deflecting and posture management is so much easier to do than dodging.

Works great on lots of other regular late-game enemies that like to jump around a lot too, especially once you get the lazulite shuriken

I hope I don't sound rude but considering how long it took you to: find shuriken tool, learn to parry, learn to jump attacks, and is still missing out on a sizeable amount of game mechanics, I'd say "short attention span" would be an understatement.

And it's the tool that costs the most spirit emblems, smart players get every advantage they can, I make sure to use tools effectively and plenty of good tools at lower costs. Flame vent should really only be used on things with a fire weakness.
