I LOVE how mind-bogglingly corrupt World Eater is. I probably would have been out protesting against the “shoot on sight“ policy too. I am convinced that they are at least as dangerous to humanity as the Kaiju are, if only because they’re willing to scupper defense efforts created by someone else.
@connorfoust86252 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Not only that, I'm getting the feeling that World Eater is behind the Kaiju attacks, and World Eater was faltering as a company before the Kaiju showed up. None of the Kaiju until Yosemite actually attacked humans, so I'm thinking World Eater provoked it on purpose or did something to it to make it go on the rampage, in order to get the government and the public on their side and continue to grow the business.

This gave me multiple ideas. It occurred to me that if Kaiju were a thing in America, they would have easily found their way into American Comic books. Imagine Batman using his own Kaiju technology to fight these creatures. It also made me think of what it would be like if World Eater made their own Top Gun equivalent, and then having an action movie made about it in the 80’s .

I do writeups on Mesoamerica, and help history and archeology channels on the topic: I don't really think Xatu is based on Mesoamerican sungazing, because sungazing isn't even a major practice in Mesoamerican spiritualism to begin with. In fact, the ONLY context I have seen it come up is in discussions about Xatu itself, which makes me think it's fake: It's always possible it's in an obscure source I haven't come across, but I read academic research papers, speak to archeologists etc all the time, so If it's legit, it's at least not a major practice. As far as actual Mesoamerican divination practices, the most common was peering into mirrors, either obsidian or pyrite: Mirrors were associated with underworld gateways, as were things like caves and pools of water. The Aztec god of strife and sorcery, Tezcatlipoca, is even named "Smoking Mirror", with black smoke or wind gusts being seen in Aztec art as a visual allegory for a mirror's omens (speech/sound was depicted as spiral wind gusts in general). I've also seen reference to divination via the casting of maize seeds, and of course the 260 day ritual calendar most Mesoamerican civilizations had was used for astrology; and many animals, astrological phenomena, and other such things were considered omens... but I've never heard of seers or priests actively staring at the sun, nor can I find any sources in a cursory search for it that's not sketchy new age websites.

Looking at Mega Xatu, I’m not sold on the theme. The Sun and Moon entries make Mega Evolution out to be a bad experience for the Pokemon who undergo it, so Xatu being the cause of the destruction it fears thematically makes sense from that aspect, but the only Dex entries that talk about Xatu seeing bad futures are the Ruby and Omega Ruby entries. The truly consistent aspect of Xatu’s Dex entries is that they don’t act on what it sees, be it because they fear a bad future, know that they can’t affect the future, or simply don’t want to alter the future. Because of that, I think a stronger concept for a Mega Xatu would involve it gaining immense power so it can easily alter the future, at the cost of losing its sight. In this way, a Mega Xatu has the power to alter the future it saw, but for as long as it's Mega Evolved it won't know what the effects of its actions are. A Mega Xatu who wants to alter the future can do so but won’t know if their actions were for good or ill. Meanwhile, a Mega Xatu who doesn’t want to affect anything won’t know if any action they take will change the future. This maintains the theme of Mega Evolution being a tradeoff; power for some weakness, but also provides a potential visual theme with Mega Xatu now flying blind.
@Missingno_Miner2 жыл бұрын
Heavily agree. Perhaps it could even go so far as them literally losing their actual eyesight to really emphasize the fact that they now have the power to alter the future it foresaw at a heavy cost.
