I had long given up gratitude for the food we get and used to throw food carelessly in the trash, despite coming from a household that never used to throw even slightly stale food in the trash. I went back to my roots recently after witnessing what Palestinians have to go through to get a single bite of food and a single sip of water. Now, if I drop any food, I try to wash it and eat it. If any stale food could be consumed by birds and animals, then I keep it outdoors so the food is not wasted. We should all strive to give respect to the food and water by utilizing it carefully.
