Madras Rubber Factory (MRF) was started by K. M. Mammen Mappillai as a toy balloon manufacturing unit in 1946 at Tiruvottiyur, Madras (now Chennai).
It is headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
In 1955, MRF soon became the only Indian-owned unit to manufacture the superior extruded, non-blooming & cushion-backed tread-rubber, enabling it to compete with the MNC operating in India at that time.
In November 1960 the company ventured in manufacturing of tyres by entering a technical collaboration with Tire & Rubber company USA. In the year 1964 the company commissioned their main plant. Also they established an overseas office at Beirut Lebanon to tap the export market. In the year 1967 the company became the first Indian company to export tyres to USA.
MRF is India's largest tyre manufacturer and ranked amongst the Top 20 Global Manufacturers with 9 state-of-the-art factories across India. MRF Limited manufactures and distributes tyres and tubes for automobiles, aircrafts, motorcycles and cycles. The Company also manufactures conveyor belts, paint and coats, and hoses. Every MRF tyre designed is the result of a special acid test on the race and rally tracks.
It is also India's largest Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) tyre supplier with an expansive tyre range from two-wheelers to fighter aircrafts.
The Company is very well known for its tyre manufacturing across the country for almost any kind of automobile which includes various tyres such as passenger cars, two wheelers, trucks, buses, etc.
Some of their product range includes MRF Nylogrip, MRF ZVTs, MRF Wanderers, MRF Meteor, MRF Steel Muscle, etc.
MRF became the first Indian company to export tyres to the US, which again was highly commendable, since US is the birthplace of tyres in general. In the same year, they also became the first ones to introduce nylon tyre in the Indian market.
The company currently holds a massive market share of more than 24% in India and with around 12% share of the world market, MRF exports to over 65 countries.
MRF was awarded for Best Product development and Best Sales Support by leading car manufacturers in the country.
