little lore drop for you; i actually don't know much about Sahaar, since I haven't gotten to this bit of story yet. but in regards to Malgus, by this time he has abandoned the Sith Empire for a SECOND time. the first time, our character was sent to defeat him and we did, believing we'd actually killed him, but the Sith Empire "salvaged" him, rebuilt him and put a bomb in his head in order to enslave him back under the control of the Empire. after a while in that state, a mission resulted in all of Malgus' robotic parts being heavily damaged and needing replacing. to do so the Droid that was doing it had to disable every implanted system in Malgus' body, including the bomb, so Malgus took that opportunity to force the droid to fix his parts and escape without replacing the bomb so now he's on the loose but, I believe, after this cinematic takes place our character has since re-captured Malgus. in Regards to Sahaar's master, Denolm Orr, he was actually previously a member of the "Children of the Emperor", who were essentially unknowing sleeper agents that would carry out the emperor's orders after they had been captured, tortured and unknowingly indoctrinated.

@@cl1cka In his philosophy and behavior, there is nothing between the dark and the light side. He still uses the dark power, so we can't talk about the "grey sith". But he doesn't just use the dark power for his own benefit. Every sith including the codex uses the dark force only for their purpose. Malgus has become something more - he fights against the caste system. He fights against good/evil philosophy. For me, Malgus is the best written character who keeps growing and has outgrown even my favorite canon characters. Because he is a true sith, but he respects life. There is no death without life, and there is no life without death.

I think you hit the nail on the head with your analyses, and it's one of the reasons I started following your channel. It's not like this cinematic screamed "Disney" at us like a lot of the newer material, but it definitely felt more like a Disney Star Wars production. From the slower movement and "floaty" camera and visual movement down to the narrative itself, I agree with much of what you said about enjoying the grittier and heavy themes that the previous trailers gave us, not to mention the weight they were able to carry and convey. An aspect of the Old Republic trailers that I loved was that every title seemed to relate to the story: "Return" was about the Sith Empire returning to Korriban, "Hope" is about the hope of the Republic returning as they fight back against the Sith, "Deceived" was about the Jedi being deceived by the Sith Empire, "Sacrifice" was about the sacrifices the brothers had to make and how the second brother becomes what he is at the end of the trailer (a Sith), and "Betrayal" was about the betrayal of this mother's trust and the betrayal of her daughter as she is turned against her. What about this trailer relates to "Disorder"? The closest thing I can think of is Malgus sowing disorder between the Jedi and Sith, but even that seems a bit of a stretch with what we're given, narrative-wise. It's still a solid cinematic, but I still rank "Sacrifice" at the top, personally.

When I first saw this trailer I loved it simply because seeing Malgus be a badass is always entertaining for me. I've always enjoyed his character because whenever he speaks, he's an evil bastard, but damn it he's right... Totally agree with a lot of the actual cinematic criticisms though. The floaty animations can be really distracting especially.

When Malgus kills the sith henchmen he stabs him through before the camera cuts to the two jedi. You can see the sudden twitch and then the red reflection on the black helmet. That's probably the reason why he looks up and stuff. This cinematic is still good, mostly because Malgus is a mennace, but my favourite is still Sacrifice.

Malgus has got to be one of the best Sith ever introduced. His dynamic character arc and development over the years make him relatable. You'd actually understand and believe in his cause. He is the truth bearer, one of the very few beings that has the power to tip the balance of the entire galaxy. The more you get into the lore, seeing different perspectives and aspects of the factions and the Force itself, the less and less you'd like the Jedi. Shout out to the men and women that made these trailers so enjoyable. The greatest part is seeing you reacting to and breaking down the elements and techniques. I was hyped when I watched these trailers not knowing why. But with you sharing the knowledge of such professions has broadened my horizons. Thank you, Kai Zammit. I love watching your videos. Like when Sahar walks up to the machine the way she drops the lightsaber looks so off to me. Also the fight Coreography in this one seems to be a lot of just pushing around the lightsabers while in the old ones it was a lot of fast "hits" which is a lot cooler imo. It is funny that you point out how the cinematic feel of THIS trailer feels so different from the others. The timing for when Star Wars went from being more "open ended" and having a huge scale to when Disney fully took... control of the franchise, falls throughout the timeframe for when SWTOR was originally released and up until today. This cinematic in particular is the most recent, and I feel has this weird feeling/vibe to it that does not match the previous ones.

So when the other Sith calls Malgus a traitor it’s because Malgus during a storyline in the games actually leaves the Sith Empire in order to create his own. Essentially, Malgus wanted to recreate a Sith Empire that truly followed under the rules and beliefs of the Sith. At the time of even the original trailers, the Sith code and ideals had somewhat become a corrupted situation. In true Sith way, it is protocol for an Sith Lord and Master to take an apprentice. They will then raise this apprentice in the ways of the Sith passing on their knowledge and skills and helping them to raise their powers. And one day, when the Sith apprentice believes themselves powerful enough, shall face their master down in combat and slay them, taking their position and continuing the legacy and ever growing strength of the Sith. Problem is, by this point such had become a corrupted ideal. Many Sith Masters would choose apprentices of poor quality or if they got ones of high quality would use them like a tool and they have them killed off through enemy action or their own, always playing to keep their positions and power intact but completely ignoring the Sith ideals of power and strength. And the same happened the other way too, a lot of good and strong Sith warriors and commanders were killed by lacking apprentices who either cheated their way into a position of power or would strike down their masters when they were completely defenceless or assassinate them in un-Sith ways. As such the rot of the Sith began to set in and Malgus being one who truly believed in the Sith ideals decided that enough was enough and broke from the Empire to form his own. - a unique thing from Malgus was that unlike the regular Sith Empire that despised aliens and barely tolerated those Sith warriors who were not human (I.e. if you were an alien that was a Sith Pureblood or Human you were pretty much never going to achieve much and would be the target of many many downfalls and discrimination + attacks) he actually adopted them fully seeing no reason why those who can hold to the Sith ideals better than those in the Empire cannot be true Sith themselves. As such alot of warrior like cultures actually signed on with Malgus’s new Empire before it was brought down by (insert protagonist character here). It would be later after escaping the Sith Emperors control again after his body and mind were recovered and corrupted after his first betrayal, he would strike out again on his own, despising both Sith and Jedi who act as if they teach the true meaning behind the force and their words, but in truth are both as corrupt in ideal as one another many a time.

I think the floatyness (or at least some of it) might be because of the motion capture. In real life movements are often slower and less intentional, but I think in animation you should be more on the stylized side and take advantage of the medium. I personally don't like the look of motion captured animations, and prefer the hand keyed ones with more artistic control of the artists.

I hate to bring up The Acolyte but do you think that show with it's high budget would have benefited more if it was done in this digital style and used the millions allocated to it to create a tighter more cohesive better written and paced show? I feel The Acolyte suffers from over price production costs, actor, directors, etc. and because if this to fill it's 8 episodes they just did not have the content to create a good show. The show has a great idea but has many holes in the story and the placement and structure of the episodes. Money is wasted for no reason and for an example they could have had the budget for a Kelnacca/Qimir lightsaber fight. Money would have been available to show Sol's backstory and more importantly Vernestra Rwoh's backstory and how she aged into the depiction the show presents.

Love how simple Star Wars is. You see her matching malgus strength and you said whoa but she’s tapping in to the dark side and she shouldn’t do it. Like Star Wars is so simple and that’s what makes the magic work and easy to understand while not being given all the answers to it.

I'll be honest this is my least favorite of all of them. I really disliked it when I first saw it, I've warmed up to it having watched it a few more times since and I do like it now, but it's still my least favorite of the swtor cinematics The cinematography and all im no filmmaker lol but even though it looks really good it also looks very stylized almost disney like to me, maybe thats just me not liking change after the darker grittier style of the older ones. The fight choreography feels very different from most star wars as well, which is not necessarily bad the last one with Senya is pretty unique too but that seemed to show off more her character's style being unique rather than an overall change in the setting almost? Some cool stuff tho like catching the saber and the hand swap The story itself I dont want to comment on too much, as I've not played the newest stuff maybe getting more of the current story there would change my mind the way knowing all the backstory for the others helps, but the last 2 cinematics do a very good job of having a hard hitting self contained story, and the first 3 show off and tease the larger world and events well. I guess to me it's like I dont really feel the connection between sahaar and her brother and master so the emotional impact doesnt quite hit as hard, you dont get a lot of time showing her and her brother or master I do like that it's back to jedi and sith stuff at least. The story was actually pretty good and well done with the last two xpacs but it was pretty weird and disconnected and didnt really feel like star wars anymore

For me its the worst cinematic from TOR, and was made by different creators thats why it looks sooo different. In one frame looks stunning and in second just awfull. This smooth camera and animations did not spoke to me, looks cheap and sterille

Yeah, this one is a step down imo. Doesn't have the same punch as the previous two trailers. Bit of a bummer that they didn't continue in the same style. It's just a bit boring, this one isn't it?

I think it's very safe... which normally ends up being boring. It's not a video where you'd be like, guys... you've got to see this!

Yeah, I have very mixed feelings about this cinematic. The animation itself looks pretty, but the Cinematic looks like crap.

This is obviously worse than the previous cinematics, right? The gravitas and cinematic quality are clearly missing. I think the writing and creative teams were completely changed for this.

Unlike the other cinematics made by Blur, this one was made by ILM.

It doesn't really matter very few nick pick as kai does but he's a film maker so thats a given, but who here didn't think this cinematic was awesome? Because it was and its meant to hype you up to play the expansion.

It's an awfully mediocre cinematic, not only compared to the previous two, but to all which came before. Disney's poor interpretation of Star Wars heavily shines through in this one. Floaty wasn't the word that came to my mind; for me, the fights feel 'heavier' in a bad way. Slower. Like a 100 year old can keep up with the pace. Moreover, no mere Padawan could ever hope to exchange more than 2 blows with a Sith Lord like Malgus, even if they tippy tapped into the dark side for a moment. Not even Anakin as the chosen one was able to challenge Dooku as a Padawan, and Dooku is "just" an apprentice. I might be biased here, but I just dislike the Padawan as a character only judging from these few minutes. It just feels like this typical "strong female" image Disney likes to portray in every Star Wars show nowadays. I like the story foundation that the Jedi Order has flawed practices and I don't think this cinematic is bad, but it's not Star Wars for me. It's DISNEY Star Wars in this one.

There is no way you're actually being serious about disliking the female character in the spand of a few minutes, she tapped into the dark side and was blinded by hatred after seeing her master be killed right in front of her, not only that she is also emotional because she suspects that she's been lied to by her master in that the force didn't pick her, he did and didn't care about what would happen with her brother. Its totally reasonable that she would be able to stand toe to toe with malgus for the short time she did, because of that hatred and anger but ultimatly she still lost the fight, so complaining about her being a strong female character is just utter foolish and makes you out to be hater who just hates just because. That 100 year old is fricking malgus and badass bastard who can't seem to die no matter what punishment he recives, he's quite powerful and has robot limbs to make his movement so that he can keep up with the younger folk. Dukku was not just an apprentice when anakin fought him as a padawan, dukku was previous a jedi master before he turned to the dark side, and was frankly a sith lord at thay point in attack of the clones. Still panawan anakin was still able to keep up with him for a while until he was defeated, so comparing that fight with this one it makes complete sense that she would be able to keep up with malgus, thanks to the hatred and dark side. But ultimatly she still lost so, no point in complaining about a female character being forcely strong, because we don't need a reason to explain why she so strong every damn time. Its cinematic to get people hype about the new expansion and get people to play. Its as simple as that, and isn't worthy being something to complain over.
