Played a couple of these in a local store. It is best described as surprising. As pointed out, not loud unmiked, but plugged in, it is super fun and cool to play. I kinda liked the rubber strings, but I play fretless, have an acoustic bass and upright too. I liked the mellow sound. The package is small, but the sound is BIG!

Met a bass player who exclusively uses a Uke-Bass for gigs, since he only does small to medium venues. But man, you are 100% right, these these are surprisingly powerful.

Just for info, the first U-bass was built in 2011 by Stevens guitars of Munich for me, Jonty of the Ukulele orchestra of Great Britain, and always had steel roundwounds

I couldn't believe the richness and fullness of the journeyman when I first played it. Bought one with roundwounds (which are even fuller than the rubber bands) a while later and love the thing for portability. String tension is different which makes slap technique quite challenging. The big caveat for me is that if I spend too much time on a tiny scale like this, moving back to regular scale feels uncomfortable and requires too much re-adjustment. I won't be able to play it often, but being able to take it with me nearly anywhere makes it worth owning.

Micing up a solid bodied electric bass is seriously underrated. Try it when recording double bassy jazz and blues parts and blend a little of the acoustic sound in the mix

The music is hilarious. I didn't expect this to sound like a full sized bass. This is the music that plays when the movie cuts to an 18 wheeler barreling down the highway, ultimately to reveal a skunk is doing the driving. Not to compare the bass to a skunk. It's a nice bass. Probably smells nice, too.

The U-Bass with roundwound strings has a very distinct sound. I got a fretted journeyman with round wound strings and fell in love with it. I liked it so much that I got a fretless model with thundergut strings. I mainly got into the U-Bass because I wanted a portable bass, and that it is, but it is much more. It really is its own instrument. There are a few things that are harder to do on it, but there are also a few things you can do on it that can't be done on any other bass.

i had a u-bass a while back and took it back because i just hated the rubber strings, they were sticky, clumsy feeling, and made things like slides impossible. i'm very very interested in the new ones with proper metal strings

With the kala flat wounds by galli the tension will be a lot more. Those strings will also stay in tune a lot more and the final result is so fun to play, personally I consider it the best 200 euros (I got a b stock) I've spent on an instrument.

Hey Gregor! Cool bass, great video and it is possible to make it a little bit better by putting softboxes (light stands) a half meter lower. Right height is when a light sparkles in eyes appear :)

Is the E A D G perfectly balance. What I mean you know how some mini acoustic bass. E sounds loud, A sounds loud D sounds low and G sounds low. Would this bass cut through the mix in a live gig

The only thing I don't like about mine which I got recently is the E string has to be played softly or muffled with the palm so that there is no rattle.

Gregor, Has the bass you’re playing been set up for the roundwounds? I have a U-Bass and the black strings are a larger diameter than the rounds, so when I put on the roundwounds they sit high off the fretboard. I like the rounds, but the playability is unacceptable.

I have one of those myself (the red one) and it truly is a beast of a bass. With the 3Sigma Double Bass Impulse response it is indistinguishable from an upright bass. You can make it sound like a P-bass too. All the pro's without any cons. If I'd have to make one point, it's very light, so if you have a heavy right hand it's better to wedge it under your arm to keep it stable. But hey! who wants to hang it low like a metal/punk bass player anyway :-)

3Sigma Double Bass Impulse response is a pick up for the u bass, software or what? I am looking for the most similar sound to an upright in a u bass but I still I can´t see clearly what I should buy

@@Ignacio.Fernandez.Santamariaimpulse responses are digital filters applied via convolution in a computer. Just think of it as a regular effect that gives you the sound of spaces (like the inside of an acoustic bass, a room, or electronic devices like a guitar cabinet or preamp.
