I listen to music like this and it makes me feel like the whole of society is playing some sort of oddly cruel game. This endless cycle of pursuit--of things, of status, of money. We all dress up for this emotional costume party and wear the most ridiculous makeups all in effort to appear content and fulfilled to everyone around us--all the while our souls are starving and most of us are so numb to it that we don't even realize it. Where are the monks? the mystics? those drawn to the strange and unearthly powers of the forests and mountains and winds? There must be a world behind the veil--and it's music like yours that makes that veil ever-so slightly more transparent.

2:44 This moment , where the man tries to enter the sea and the other one is pushing him to the shore, hit me hard and differently. 4 days have passed since my mother admitted she wanted to commit suicide, to me, and since then, every waking moment is me trying to push her back to the shore, as she longs for the sea. To all those who feel they are on the edge, please stay. Speak out, allert people. You won't believe the lengths people will go to, to save you. You ARE wanted and needed in this life. Even if daily routine doesn't help them show it to you , the way they should.

Thank you for taking time, to share with us your story, it really buffles me that there are women,mothers or step mothers (and people in general) in this world, willing to abuse a child...another human, another soul. I am one of your kind, i was abused since days newborn baby until old. So my perspective happens to be ''see things practical''. What do i mean by that? Make a list of what you want to change, (so you can locate and identify it) and another list of what triggers it. Remove yourself from toxic places (our parents house, our childhood room can be a toxic place) and people. Meditate and find ways that calm the child in you. Understand that just because someone happened to be older than us, with the title of ''parent'' doesn't mean they were not psycho, having issues of their own etc. It had nothing to do with you as a person. It was all about her. Her issues, her twisted head. She created a wound in you and now you need to work on yourself to close this wound. The scar might be there (highly visible or not at all, this depends on you), but it will not bleed. And you won't die. You are your life project. You. They say it's ok if you do not help to change the world. It's ok if you help only 1 person and it's ok if that person is you. Meditate. Find what excites you and try to surround yourself with it. Pamper yourself. Exercise. Put music on and go for a run. Go for walks in the nature. Try 1 new thing every month. Plan a trip. Take a new course. Learn to paint. Go help in a shelter. See what life has in store for you, because this universe is a straaaange place. But most of all, the thoughts you make now, will be your future. So edit them, make them positive ones, even if you pressure yourself at first. Visualize the difference. Make it happen. Write to me from time to time if it's ok with you.

I’m a musician as well, and we may come from different worlds of music, but it’s always nice when we do connect with others. I discovered Kalandra through Warduna’s version of Helvegen, which I had discovered from their live performance of the song with Aurora, which has led me to conclude that Norwegians just have universal raw musical talent.

In essence, this song is about witnessing your own vulnerability in comparison to the massive forces that move the world. The video tries to convey that feeling through several intertwining narratives. The video was made by the brilliant people in Ragnarok Film and we had a wonderful time shooting it and exploring the beautiful locations around central Norway.

@@eagleone5456 There are several interpretations. Ocean/seas, caves etc., have a deep meaning in nordic/european mythologies, linked to the fertility cult. The images and lyrics seems self-explanatory to me, I hear and see a (re)birth. But I could be wrong.🤨

I cant lump these band in with those you mention. Kalandra songs are so unique and special they firmly stand on their own. 🙂 There is a subtlety and passion in their music that Ive never heard elsewhere.

I was at the concert that Kalandra performed in Barcelona in November. Thirty seconds into "Borders," I started to cry. What a beautiful song. The vocals, the music, the lyrics... Never in my life have I felt anything like what Kalandra makes me feel. Thank you.

Yesterday I went to bed fighting my own inner demons, thinking of how far I could go to get out of my comfort zone. While thinking, I stumbled upon this wonderful video that was reccomended to me on youtube ( Probably because I love listening to Aurora ) I was so tired that I just went to sleep, I just wanted to listen once again to this masterpiece, and I can understand the lyrics now. I don't know how, but they're so relatable, and I realize that they described my feelings when I first listened to it. Thank you.

I get a sense that the video represents the dudes going to valhala and the one guy wanting to go back for his girl, but the tides of the ocean represents the unyielding force that keeps souls in the other side, but after some time his girl gets to valhala ❤

I adore this song. And when I listen I can’t help but feel that this is a sort of love song; about how the ocean and mountain are in love; how they meet and intertwine during every storm; and the bittersweet moment at the end when the storm is over, and the ocean is swept back out to be its true self, while the mountain can only watch, knowing he can’t follow, knowing that he never knows when she’ll be back, but also knowing that she will: eventually: always. And he’ll always be there for her return. A vicious cycle. On repeat, till the end of time... I find it beautiful, yet sad, like a tragic love story.

These are not my lands. But i see them and it reminds me of home. Eerie feeling. Black sands and twisted pines. tussocks of grass following a creek that takes leap off a precipice. Moss and lichen death and life in the same breath. Sweeping hands through pine needles. Really odd emotion.

There’s a border on the apparent nihilism of the universe where on one side is a rage against it, and the other is succumbing to its coldness and apathy and emptiness. It’s on that border I find peace. Where the black sun meets the raging sea, if you will. There. I finally figured out why this song makes me feel so deeply.

This song (among others, but this one has been on repeat for days) has saved me from the edge of sanity. was starting to loose myself completly in a mental spiral downwards, forced myself to hike for miles, across the dunes and along the raging sea, listening to this song brought me back. Even though, ill never really be comfortable trusting people again, i can and will trust nature and it's healing powers

I find the "story line" of the two men so well pictured. The one being rescued from the waves but being drawn back to the sea... kinda feels intensely relatable. This video is full of beautiful imagery and visuals and go along with the endlessly heartwrenching and beautiful song perfectly. This song and these images word and picture how I feel about the ocean pretty well :3

I saw Leprous with a friend in Berlin and listened to Kalandra from outside the location as we didn't realize it was live. 😢 Fortunately I saw the last two songs and later on it felt like we missed the main act as they were so good. ❤

I chose this tune during a moment of random whimsy. Something to listen to while I worked on an art commission...instead I just stared at the empty page and listened to this alone on repeat. This is a triumph of sound that makes me hurt perfectly.

I was just introduced to you and your music at the Ancient Pavilion in Plovdiv a little over a week ago... You Were Absolutely Amazing! It was wonderful to be a part of the experience of your coming full circle from backpacking through the country years ago, to performing on that ancient stage where you absolutely belonged... And how you pointed to the one person in the audience who was clearly your biggest fan, to acknowledge her and the way she was singing along and moving to your music (she was a couple rows away from where we sat)... It was all so amazingly beautiful... Thank you for becoming a part my life; My Wife's life; and the after-life of our Boy who passed only 1 moon (4 weeks & 1 day) before the concert... Although we booked the tickets before he passed - that night, for us, was like a ritual to celebrate our love for him, the life he lived, (to mourn the loss of the life we wanted to give to him), and to send him on his way to a better place, while still keeping him here in our hearts... Thank you for unknowingly being a part of that ritual. You have helped to turn what was excruciatingly painful, into something which - although tragic... is monumentally beautiful... (Just like your music.) Thank You

This song is powerful. The video is soul shattering. The lyrics can be read in a few ways and I would hazard a guess that it's intentional. On the one hand it's like an acceptance of how uncaring and cruel nature is. On another it seems about hiding from the world as it beckons you out. The video is just as compounded in meaning but i'm not here to write an essay lol

I see it as a mix of both your interpretations actually. As we live sheltered lifes in concrete cities, some of us will have the call to return to Nature where our mind can be at ease, but never forgetting that this same Nature is without mercy. Having being away from it for so long, some have a very romantic and idealized understanding of Nature, where suffering and cruelty seemingly don't exist. If that's what you believe, then you simply don't belong there - Nature will make short work of you. In this instance, she can't love you like you love her, as the song eloquently puts it.

I read an article interview with her and she made a brief comment about what it meant to her. She writes that by standing on the borders of safety, we are confronted with our vulnerabilities, but that is where we can also find true peace and love. She draws comparison to Mother Nature, we awe in her beauty, but she cannot love us like we love her. She has no mercy. Much like wanting to control the massive outside forces, we cannot, we can only control our own choices. This wonder and push towards the unknown, of what "could be", exposes us to a world of possibilitied (and risks), but it's the very thing that makes the human experience what it is. The feeling of being alive.
