Great review Ben! Thanks a lot. I've ordered a pair of these too, and waiting for them to arrive to the retailer's. I'm in Europe, so I'll have to be a bit patient. :) I'm also planning on hooking these up to the WS12 and calibrate it all with Sonarworks. I think that's going to be a blast. When you said “OH. MY. GOD”. That was my exact reaction when I listened to my IN-8 v2 for the first time. My only gripe is that my unboxing wasn’t the same as yours. Mine got shipped in only the Kali labeled boxes and had a ton of finger prints / dead skin flakes all over them - kind of weird. I don’t think it was Kali’s fault though, but the retailer I got them from. Either way, they sound great.

It's funny I have the Kali IN-8's Version 1 and I don't hear no hiss like others talk about. But I am interested in the Version 2 ones!

Yes. You have to press your ears against the drivers to hear that the speaker is on now.

@@producerbenford Hi, I would like to buy me a pair of studio speakers mainly for (nearfield) mixing/DJing (mostly Techno, Minimal, Tech-House music and I'm not sure if I should go for the Kali IN-8 Second Wave or the Focal Alpha 65 EVO. Any advice/suggestions please? Thanx..

@@wes7489 both are good choices but these are two completely different monitors and price ranges. The three way is going to give you a hint more of clarity in the mids. Both have good bass extension. The Kali’s have the placement dsp. The Alpha 80s have a lower bass extension. So there are some trade offs to be considered.

That completely depends on the room you put them in and the time you spend learning them.

They both perform well. If you’re looking for more defined mids and bass extension in8 are the way to go but the LP6 are amazing in themselves and I actually reference on the LP6 and IN8 next to the Barefoots

At what size in your opinion would a room be considered too big for the IN 5s?

So if you’re mixing low the space constraints are null. But when you’re trying to really crank them your space will determine what others hear based on your listening position. So for cranking them the 100-120 sq-ft would be my recommendation anything larger would push me to the 8s.

@producebenford: I can’t really give an honest opinion on these monitors-to be honest via KZfaq they sound a bit boxy -almost nasals? I’m looking at the IN 5 just because I’m in a small studio and I already have Yamaha hs8 -but the Focal twin Evo are my second choice as these latter are 3 way monitors. Mmh 🤨 what to do?!? Shall I try the Kali IN 5 first? And see how these some sound?!? Heeeelp!

It really depends on your preference. Focal are dope, I’ve had a pair and I loved them, but if you don’t have a well go treated room then they definitely can’t reach their full potential. The options on the Kali Audio Monitors really set them apart. Yeah there is no perfect way to hear monitors over KZfaq, but the IN-8s are definitely not boxy at all. The IN-5s with the WS12 is a crazy combo too.

@@producerbenford hey 👋 thanks for your reply! I hear you. Yes, Focal Evo65 had a reserved mid high frequencies and at time a too high in the upper range to the point then after working on a track my ears were on fire, but they have a great tight bass, nice sweet spot and good translation at any volume-bcuz the annoying piercing high frequencies I’ve returned those. I’ll give a try with the Kali IN 5 , as here in London I can’t find the IN8 V2 out of stock. So to have an idea how these monitors will perform I’ll proceed with IN5 then will decide if an 8” will be needed, not a big fan of 2.1 system. Thanks 😊 again!

Man. I’m sorry you didn’t end up with the newest version. But, thanks for bringing that up. So, the rest of us can make absolutely sure we are getting the 2nd waves before we buy.
