Kali Mata temple of Kalapani, Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand state, India is an unusual temple.
Situated in a remote place in the high Himalayas at an altitude of 12,000 feet, this temple dedicated to the Goddess Kali is about 9 kilometers from Gunji.
The stone-built Murti (idol) of the Goddess is ancient, and believed to be established by the great sage Veda Vyasa, one of the seven Immortals as per the Hindu scriptures.
The present temple is a new one, situated by the Kali River.
Inside the sanctum, there is a small square shaped water-filled Kund (tank) which is believed to be the origin of Kali river.
In a small chamber on one side of the Kali temple's sanctum, there is a Shiva Lingam.
