I like the quiet neighborhood you live in...As you say, there are plenty of nice places nearby too... BTW, the trip home has rejuvenated the two of you IMO...You are ready for the next round of treatments... Glad to see this...We're in your corner, my friend...Praying daily for full recovery. You are correct our friend! Dazel and I feel rejuvenated! Spending the week with our doggies was so much fun! Chloe specially would not leave my side. Every time I slept; she’s sleeping with me. I am ready for the next round of treatments. Thank you for your continued prayers our friend. We appreciate you.

Thank you Ginno and Dazel for yet another excellent and informative video. I myself plan to retire to the Philippines in the next couple of years, and the area you describe here sounds very much what I'm looking for. Quiet, suburban, but yet not too far from larger cities with more amenities. I was particularly thankful for your thorough coverage of the issue of good hospital's and medical care in the area. While I am in good health now, I did suffer a stroke recently. I recovered completely, thank God, but a nearby hospital...a good one....is not a luxury anymore. It is a necessity. All the best to you Ginno. Stay strong, think positive, and do whatever it is you need to do to recover. I got over the effects of a serious stroke, and am now healthier than ever. You can do it too. You two are a great couple, and I feel sure your wonderful wife Dazel will aide immeasurably in your recovery. Your channel is awesome. Upbeat, informative, and thoughtfuly crafted. But they tend to focus on those aspects of life in which I have little interest. Worse still, they will tend to gloss over just what it is that makes the Philippines so special and unique among nations. And what is that? It's people, of course. Kind. Intelligent and refined. Soft spoken. Humble. God fearing. Am I a dummy for deciding on Dumaguete as my retirement destination before considering other locals? Maybe. I'll visit Kalibo and get a feel for the community. Afterall, your depiction of the town fits the all the things I'm hoping for. Have a safe trip back to Iloilo.

Dumaguete is a great retirement destination my friend. Dazel and I visited Dumaguete City last November. We would select Bacong or Valencia if we lived in the area; we prefer more rural than city. Housing would be cheaper in Bacong or Valencia also. Higher number of expats in Dumaguete than Kalibo. So, it would be up to your preference. Some people like living around expats; some don’t. Thank you my friend; made it safely back to Iloilo City.

So far so good my friend. Next treatment is tomorrow. Treatment knocks me down for 3 days; I just rest in our apartment and do my best to hydrate. Drink Ensure and soup broth. Able to eat solid food again after 3 days. Dazel keeps me in good spirit.

OW COST HOUSIN IN ILOILO....2ND DISTRICTS TOWNS: SAN MIGUEL LEGANES,PAVIA, STA BARBARA, ZARRAGA.... this town is 40 mins away from downtown iloilo city depending on traffic hours. ILOILO HAS IT ALLLL.... MEDICAL, RECREATIONS. ILOILO SOME WHAT CEBU LIKE

I am retiring from the service 22 yrs this June. I am interested going back to the Philippines currently I have 3 properties. 1st is my parents house our home back in 1991 when we left the Philippines. It needs plenty of work or a demo and rebuilt. 2nd is in my wife's name we built it back in 2015 3 bed room in the province in missamis oriental. 3rd property condo SMDC CDO still under construction. I am looking fwd to move my family back home.

Congratulations on your retirement! Thank you for your service. You mentioned you are interested in moving your family. If you have school aged kids, my recommendation is to wait till they finish their education in the U.S. Better education and opportunities for them in the U.S. Plus, if they have never lived in the Philippines, it can be a challenge for them. I always give the same advice to people interested in retiring in the Philippines. If you can retire comfortably in the U.S.; retire in the U.S. If you are looking to retire on a budget and live simple; retire in the Philippines.

Hi Ginno, I'm retiring back home in 2 years You see a lot of Basketball courts around there in Kalibo ?

Basketball is life in the Philippines! There are leagues played throughout Aklan province including Kalibo all year round. Each of the 17 municipalities in Aklan have a covered court at their plazas. Provincial championship games played at the ABL Basketball court in Kalibo.

We like it more at Camella Aklan because of the quiet neighbourhood. Easier to walk our dogs too. In Kalibo, there were a lot of stray dogs and no sidewalks on some streets to walk our dogs.

No, Malay is not a city. Aklan province does not have a city; Kalibo has been trying to become a city. But, has failed!

@@SheckleRFan715 Kalibo has applied for cityhood at least the last 5 years and is the capital of Aklan; keeps getting denied. Malay has half the population of Kalibo and medical care in Malay is limited; no trauma center. Medical patients in Malay requiring surgery are sent to Kalibo. Fire response is also a problem in Boracay (part of Malay). Fire trucks unable to reach fire because of narrow streets and no fire hydrants. There have been major fires in Boracay over the last 10 years. If Kalibo keeps getting denied cityhood; I just don’t see Malay getting cityhood.
