Hi Richard. Best way to start shore based Chokka fishing is to get to Kalkbay Harbour late afternoon and fish for them from dusk till when curfew allows. Now in winter it might be a bit slow but its a good time to learn, because when the chokka fishing gets good it gets crowded and you need to be able to fish confined. A 6ft rod wirh a 1000 to 2000 size reel will do. The jigs you can get from any tackle shop. They range in price but the more expensive one do work and last better. @@FishingBruZA, thanks for responding, I'm come this weekend from PE and I only have a few hours in Kalk bay/Muizenberg . I will be taking 6ft, 8ft and a 9.6ft. I do mostly lures, not really into bait fishing. I fish mostly Bluewaterbay in PE.

@@ferrosjewellers4558if you are here for a short time you should try Bailey's Cottage Simomstown ledges, Rooikramz or maybe Strand reefs. Your success rate will most probably be higher there with spinning.

I used a 10w 12v dc light and a cheap led spotlight (probably 12w) on seperate switches. Works perfect for me and lasts a couple of nights, also you dont need a super heavy battery.

Hi Tarell, yes, I have and do move between Simonstown and Kalkbay. Best off the boat but like all fishing its a hit and mis from the side.

Hi Regan, there are plenty fishing groups. Where do you live? Depending on location, it might be safe to fish lone but around here those are few and far between. It's recommended to be at-least two or more people for safety reasons.

@@FishingBruZA I'm staying in observatory currently so I'm guessing the closest option would be to find a fishing charter that goes from waterfront. Please let me know what you can suggest I'd love to meet people who share sane interest as me wouod be great way to also make some new friends.

@@regancircusartist9162 for boat fishing there are charters running from Kalkbay, Simonstown, Strand/Gordonsbay and surely from Waterfront. I personally don't fish the waterfront area. You could also look in Langbaan, there are charters there too. You will also find some guys that will take you on charter trips for rock and surf fishing. Just do a Facebook search. too may for me to mention here.
