Kalki is inspired by the religious text Kalki Purana, which predicts a post-apocalyptic future where a demonic being named Kali, representing the suppressed dark nature of humanity, emerges to bring ruin upon the world. In the prelude animated series "Bujji and Bhairava," it hints at a potential apocalypse that might have occurred, leading to the destruction of civilization. The complex shown in the trailer represents a paradise created by Kali to establish his own heaven, possibly inspired by myths where an individual create their own afterlife when denied entry to true heaven. In my view, driven by strong feelings about humanity, Kali seeks to replicate Satya Yuga with evil twist. Satya Yuga is an age where mankind experiences no suffering, pain, or injustice. According to myth, at the end of the current age (Kali Yuga), an enigmatic figure called Kalki, who is said to be the tenth avatar of Vishnu (with Buddha as the ninth), will bring an end to Kali. In the movie, they alter this narrative slightly by depicting Kalki as a superhuman-like being (Project K, as per the first glimpse), created by Kali to establish a dark Satya Yuga where humanity abstains from lying or cheating not out of peace but out of fear. The old man in the story is Ashwatthama, who, around 6,000 years ago during the great war of Kurukshetra, used a divine arrow called Brahmastra to kill the unborn child of his enemy. Cursed by Krishna the 8th avatar of vishnu to walk with a bleeding head until he redeems himself and now his redemption comes through saving Kalki. Mahabharata is amazing and very philosophical but i think you will be fine if you want to see it in theatres.

There was a teaser and trailer which came before these. It's a science fiction epic film based on a Hindu Mythology story. The story is about the 10th avatar of Lord Vishnu, "Kalki" who will defeat evil "Kali" and restore the world. The main hero is actor Prabhas who playing as a selfish bounty hunter "Bhairava". The old guy is Ashwattama(played by Amitabh Bachan), a legendary character(from the epic Mahabharata book) cursed as immortal with blood leaking continuously from his forehead 6000 years ago by God Krishna. He and the other 6 immortals(Mahabali, Ved Vyasa, Hanumana, Vibhishana, Kripacharya, and Parshurama) are supposed to train this Kalki to end Kali. This movie is inspired by the Hindu Text of Kalki Puran, which prophesies the arrival of tenth incarnation(Kalki) of Hindu God 'Vishnu'. Hindu gods like Krishna and Rama and even Buddha are also the incarnations of Lord Vishnu.

Amitabh Bachchan is playing Ashwatthama, the son of Drona in the Mahabharata (around 7000 years back) who was cursed by God Krishna with pathetic immortality for his attempt to kill Uttarā's (Arjun's daughter-in-law) unborn child. Aswathama is one of the 9 Chiranjeevi (immortals). All 9 Chiranjeevi, including Hanuman ji, will assist Kalki in the war against evil at the end of Kaliyug. Dune? No. It's related to indian mythology kalki purana and yugas. Yugas are like time cycles . Lot of your hollywood movies steal our indian mythological ideas and greek mythologies and they make movies sometimes they dont even acknowledgement.

Visually maybe it looks like dune & star wars but its a different story from Indian scriptures

It draws from the events at the end of the epic Mahabharata and the Mahabharata war in which the previous Avatar of Vishnu or Krishna is present as the charioteer and projects it to the next or 10th and final Avatar of Vishnu that is Kalki and to the imagined events of his birth at the end of Kali Yuga or the Age of Darkness. As per ancient Indian scriptures Kaliyuga starts with death of Krishna and ends with Kalki who destroys darkness and restores balance to the world and creation. Comparing it with anything else except a few stylisations is missing the point. If you really want to get the context read a little into at least the Mahabharata and the concept of yuga though at most places you will find wrong idea of timelines. The Character of Aswathhama (old man) played by Amitabh Bachhan is a character of Mahabharata who was cursed with immortality for his crime of killing unborn children in the mothers womb. Yes in Hindu tradition immortality is a curse as it prevents you from renewing yourself. Aswathhama lives through 6000 yrs to protect the unborn child that is destined to be the 10th Avatar Kalki and be released of his curse of immortality and bringing his Karma full circle. Madhava is another name of Avatar Krishna

The thing is that in indian cinema and south indian cinema that viking look a like character or something monstrous is always missing

In Mahabharat battle, He/She promised to return back in the end of Kali yuga(present era) as Kalki Avatar Also there are so much details like Ashwathama's body size, Sum-80 name, water disaster mention from scriptures, still not showing Kali in physical form(Kamal hasan is not Kali) etc etc Hats off to vision and detailing of director Nag Ashwin

Kalki Purana predates both Star Wars (Original Lucas, not Disney yuck) & Dune, both of which also take concept found in Hindu texts like the Force which is basically the concept of Namaste, the idea that everything is bound by Narayana / Paramathman (Supreme Soul, Being), the entity permeates the rock, the tree, the humans. It binds us & keeps the brahmand / universe together. Narayana is every where, even inside of rock, humans, etc. So, Namaste means "I bow to the Narayana/Force in you". Lucas just replaced Narayana with Force. Even Anakin is inspired by Kalki, especially his light sword, that will light the path of humanity in Kaliyug, where darkness will be at its peak. Star wars also incorporates Hindu / Eastern philosophies like Ascetism, control over desires, individual pursuit of enlightenment, etc. Narayana is known for having all his senses under control. While Shiva only lack control of his anger & is doing Tapas to gain control of his anger. Shiva has control of all other senses. Shiva's aradhya is Narayana, who is guiding him on to the path of enlightenment. One day Shiva will become the new Narayana, and a new multiverse will be born around him. As for Dune, it is inspired by the word magic of the Nagas / Serpent tongue. It is said, Nagas who also inspired Dragons in China, could make people do things or bend reality with serpentine tongue / word magic. It's completely okay to compare it with Dune as I myself being an Indian would agree that a bit of inspiration is taken from dune and star wars. But again Star Wars had references from hindu scriptures as well. Another movie is Matrix series which is completely based on the philosophies of Upanishad and Srimad Bhagvat Geeta.
