@@chicken_burgers In fact, a Frenchman named Bernard said that the most remarkable thing about kamikazes is not just that they rush toward the enemy, but that they are prepared to die months before they go out. He said that it takes no ordinary mental strength to live one's life in a condensed form, knowing that one will surely die in the near future, and that this act could never be imitated by Westerners.

Do you know what was really cowardly? The multitudes of Japanese imperial soldiers savagely tearing apart and mutilating American soldiers bodies including many innocent civilians of Korean Filipino and Chinese descendant. You wonder why every other Asian nationality hate on the old Japanese empire but no one ever talks about it. Unit 751, the rape of Nanking, the Bataan death march There has been many many accounts of Japanese imperial soldiers tying US soldiers to trees and bayoneting them over 100 times cutting their dicks off and then shoving it into their mouths then decapitating them…. The main plan was too invade and go to war on their own home turf. If you don’t know shit about World War II and just wanna hate on white Europeans or America then STFU. Ignorance is bliss ain’t it….. boo fukn hoo 🖕

My father in law was on a battleship in the Pacific War. His ship was USS New Jersey and they faced kamikazes in the Philippines, probably off Iwo Jima, and finally 30 days off Okinawa. When they were relieved and went to Bremerton for repairs and to get ready for the invasion of Japan he said 100's of guys requested transfers to other ships that weren't always on the front line like New Jersey was. Every single request was denied. He was glad they dropped the bomb.

+MOI yeah ok......you have no idea what type of fright and demoralization Kamikazes (Japanese special attack force units) had as an effect on US Navy personnel in the Pacific then. They saw their friends running around burning to death, picking up burnt/half living corpses of people you knew and lived with. These are men who were in some crazy unknown place, who had to fend off planes with guns that were literally visualizing planes flying themselves as artillery against them, something never seen or imagined of by most nations. So rethink your post. Im sure he wasn't happy it killed so many civilians, but happy it hindered/stopped the SAF's. Imagine seeing a plane coming into you with bomb/s loaded, at 200+mph. Dont think you would be happy it would stop by any means necessary? Easy to say no, but bet you would! It was a different time then sir

+ww2 colorizer Thank you friend; you are correct that my father-in-law did not celebrate the deaths of civilians. But he put the blame for their deaths where it belonged, the Japanese Emperor and his government. Your comment about this kind of attack having never been experienced before is also right. As to shipmates lost, he specifically remembered a major attack, with all the ships going flat out, hard left, hard right, the noise deafening, some ships already hit, burning. He peeked out the hatch of the 5-inch gun he was stationed in, and they were sailing at 30 knots right past a dense group of 100's of US sailors in the water, from a sunken ship. All he saw was faces and hands; they were screaming to be picked up, waving. Not a chance. Every vessel was under attack. To stop meant certain destruction. Maybe they were rescued later and maybe not, he never knew.

Tim W no, thank you for sharing these stories, would love to hear anything you know about his service. I have a major interest in all things ww2. I have the utmost respect for Vets like your Grandfather and my Grandpas brother who was in the 37th SeaBee Battalion in the Pacific (Bouganville, Okinawa, Munda etc). Their supply ship was bombed in Okinawa. He was shot at constantly and bombarded with artillery, also losing friends while building airstrips/fortifications/etc too. Nobody in the Pacific had it easy in my opinion. I am in contact with Vets from both US and Germany right now, from various theatres of operation. It's amazing to hear what these guys went through. They were the best generation of people, and its too bad we have swayed so much from their ethics. Hard working, tough men who stood up for their country when it needed it the most. It must have been chilling to see those men in the water, feeling helpless because you knew you couldn't save them, meanwhile thinking you could be one of them at any moment. There are many harrowing accounts of these overboard men being at sea for weeks on end, getting eaten by sharks, going delirious from lack of food/water.....just crazy. im sure you've heard the accounts. If you have any b/w photos/portraits of your Grandpa that you would like to see colorized, Id be happy to give it a go. I collect photos, but have also colorized hundreds of photos for ww2 Vets and their families. Some who had never seen their family members in color before.

we need to remember that all people who served in all wars were usually just ordinary people serving their country, and all need to be remembered for that, whichever side they were on, for when the war ends and the guns go silent, those who fought and died deserve whatever honors their people give them. because most of them fought for their people, and that is an honorable thing.

I am Japanese. I admit that installing the Emperor as God was a necessary and rational measure for Japan to become a modern nation. First, it helped to open and maintain parliamentary politics. Parliament allows for conflict. Nevertheless, in order to still hold together as one nation, it is necessary for the people to have a common spiritual axis. In the West, the Christian God played this role. In Japan, only the emperor could fulfill this role. Second, it helped to increase the number of patriots necessary for national security. Thanks to its historical value and originality, it saved us the trouble of having our children pledge allegiance to the flag every morning, as in the United States. Congress and national security are both important. The Japanese merely sought to acquire the elements necessary for modernization in a manner best suited to Japan. To describe this as a false religion is as nonsensical as describing America as a cult that makes people pledge allegiance to a piece of cloth with a star on it.

I recall reading the remembrances of a former IJN pilot who was in a Special Attack unit. He was diving on a ship, determined to sacrificee himself, when the image of his mother's face filled his windscreen. At the last moment, overcome with emotion, he pulled out of his suicide dive and flew back to base. I can't recall the excuse he invented to explain to his superiors why he survived his mission, but the fact that had failed to carry out his orders haunted him for years.

Yes there is a right and wrong in war. Japan committed national suicide starting a war against the US. They killed, enslaved, tortured, and otherwise oppressed every people they conquered on every island and continent. The poor pilots were fighting for a Emperor and a military dictatorship that didn't care if every one of their Japanese civilians was killed, as long as the fought to the death. If Japan cared one bit about "protecting" its people and island, they should have surrendered long after Okinawa was lost and the start of the B-29 raids.

For their Unit 731 doing medical experiments on thousands of Chinese and POWs?

Actually a decent portrayal of both sides! CGI of Kamikaze planes that were hit is based off actual footage shot by Navy film crews.

この映画は断片的に実際の特攻隊の映像が使用されています。国に命を捧げ、家族のために戦い、太平洋の海に散った両軍の勇敢な兵士達に敬意を表します。三度とこの様な地獄を繰り返してはならない。

Japan's Army special attack squadrons are not said to be kamikaze. The kamikaze special attack squadron is only the navy.
