But well, here I'm mostly, cos, as a fact, since I began learning the piano, my interest in classical music has grown. For five years in the mid nineties I lived and worked in New Haven CT, basically surrounded by the Yale Campus. Every day I walked through the buildings of the music school there, past, I believe Stoekel Hall, or sum-such. It was a small recital hall and there were (free) performances there every day that classes were in. One day I saw the Kreutzer Sonata posted on the board, to be done by two old members of the faculty. It was the only time I ever saw this done live. White haired men. The violinist broke a string in the first movement and compensated and continued to play brilliantly and with absolute passion.

Is anyone really surprised that this hauntingly dissonant piece inspired one of the most macabre tales of murder ever told? A murky idea which began in the chaotic mind of Beethoven, the nineteenth century's leading composer, was given perfect clarity of expression by Tolstoy, the 19 C's finest writer of fiction. Cultural evolution doesn't always produce positive results, and when it does they tend to be pedestrian, but occasionally, as in the case of the Kreutzer Sonata, they are an astonishing triumph.

Why are people complaining that she isn't showing emotion while playing? It isn't that big of a deal. Listen to the beautiful music and stop complaining that she doesn't look perfect for her performance. Like really? People always have a complaint about SOMETHING.

I don't get it. There is plenty of emotion in the playing

Guys I like the anime too. Like, it made me cry and stuff, yes. But you also have to acknowledge the beautiful sound that they're creating together is amazing. Something I can never get over. So enjoy it!

This is incredible! The tone, the notes, the gorgeous bowing! It's just overwhelming how perfect it is! Whoever hates this, doesn't even know what music is.

When I was a kid, my cousin sister bought me a new year card which played "fur Elise" on opening, that was the start today I'm 18. BTW I'm a total weeb and have watched your lie in April, it's a good thing that people are discovering this through anime as well.

The amount of emotion in the first movement I often find to unbearing to handle. Its simply too good.

I have always loved music, my dad was a musician and VP of a chain of music stores when I was small so I was always surrounded by music that he enjoyed and felt relevant. While classical was not in his arsenal of music I was lucky that he enjoyed “modern” music that was very inspired by classical (thanks Yngwie). Growing up not listening to this and seeing it now is really profound to me, the emotions and the translation into the music played seems to be lost in modern music and it’s really sad but perhaps that is what lyrics are for. They obviously didn’t need them in this piece.

Piano accompaniment typically bothers me, I've never been sure why. This dude is an exception; I'm enjoying his playing almost as much as Mutter's!

There are greater violinists than Anne Sophie (though not many). But none currently who can pierce my soul as she does.

You know, it really matters not how Sophie or Lambert rank among other virtuosos. What matters is whether or not their work together here pleases you. It pleases me. j

I’ve been playing classical piano for 14 and most of my life. One thing that always stays true in violin and piano is that while they are incredible on their own, they are truly magnificent when brought together. They’re like old friends that have their own separate jobs and lives but always make time together where they can truly be themselves.
