Cleaning up the pond would be sweet. Definitely need some logs or something for them all to pile on in the water. That way we could see them basking.

That’s what’s missing, some basking logs! Every pond/lake/marsh has downed trees that turtles bask on. They’d feel safer on logs than on the shore.

He had water plants in the rec pond until (certain) turtles ate them. I wonder if waterlilies would thrive in the big pond? Once established they spread like crazy, especially local, native species. Surprised there are no Water Hyacinths/Water lettuce... things that can be collected locally.

@@jebVlogs556 don't they eat other turtles too though?
@jebVlogs556
@jebVlogs556 11 ай бұрын
@@grass_snake80 the Alligator snapping turtle is a "Opportunistic" type species of aquatic turtle that yes, does cannibalize its own and eats other turtles(of its hunger enough) all animals in fact, rather it be by nature or nurture it happens. Kenan said this years ago," he saw deer literally eating an egg,from a tree which houses a birds nest." Not everything is cut and dry. If something is lacking for higher brain functions or needs protein, even herbivores will eat live or dead/decaying bodies. Again it happens and most of them don't allow good protein to go to waste. Now,that being said, I've seen monitor lizards eating dried or fresh fruit and berries(Perenti's, Asian, Tegu, Black Throat, Gila,Black Dragons and even Iguanas and Gators do it) it's not as uncommon as you might think 💬🤔. Anacondas start off at the bottom of the food chain when they are born(Monkeys,if they are hungry or big enough, Caiman,Jaguar,Hawks,Predatory Fish like Tailed Catfish or Gouch,Frogs too will eat them no problem) until they are big enough they are up for grabs like anything else. The Biggest ones,and oldest Anacondas you don't see(they hunt in deep damp foliage and wait for days until something walks by) Jaguars ..in the Amazon's don't hunt locals(as we are lead to believe) or city folk like you or me(we smell too clean with the perfume and stuff) and you might as well walk around with a foghorn going off,causes how loud we Smell to the wild animals out there,a majority reason we dont see them(but they can Definitely smell you and hear the moment you touch that dry rock or wet grass) oh by the way, all wild animals especially in the Amazon's are taught by the mother,she passes the knowledge unto her offspring,what to avoid(humans mostly) and what to kill and run from..

You've successfully created the best home possible for these guys. Proof is in their contented (speedy!) growth and maturation. Only to be expected, I guess, but the raccoon-survivor was the most cautious and least eager of those we saw relocated. Even when the others dove in and were eating, he (?) was not convinced he'd be safe. (Love your place, Kenan.)

What sets Kenan apart from other reptile channels, is that he's more concerned about a healthy habitat for the animals, and not so much into pet breeding programs and display animals. There's a bit of that, but it's not the priority by a long shot. The welfare of the animals always comes first.

you need some sort of water flow in that big pond because when it gets dry out like you saw earlier this year you're smaller turtles like the ones you're putting in there now have problems with the gas So if you have water flowing in a little bit more water volume in that pond during the dryer months I think you'll be better off and that something you want to talk to at the pond professor about.
